Criticize Mario all you want for coaching or tactical issues, but saying he has a “beyond cushy gig“ considering how much time a college coach has to put in, especially someone who is a tireless worker, and how much pressure they are under, is not understanding the job at all. Nothing cushy about it.

I’ll tell you what’s cushy. Putting 10 grand in your pocket for slapping a homemade sign on a lawn truck.

It make sense for the university in case a school were to show interest his buy out could be substantial enough for some to pass on offering… vs the possibility of not locking him and lose him with no payout or viable replacement.
