Miami-Georgia Southern

Canes hang on to win their first game of the season. Lot of things you can appreciate from the win. Hopefully I'll be up and running officially on the website so I can give a full on report of the game, but for now I'll leave everyone with these notes.

- Donnavan Kirk finishes with his second consecutive double double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
- 5 players, both starters and bench players, reached double figures in scoring: Kirk (18), Brown (15), Adams (11), Lecomte (10), Kelly (10)
- Canes Defense allows 48% from the field, Offense shoots 39.1% from the field.
- Canes 85% from the FT line
- Rion Brown goes 3-13 from the field.

Now to watch the Dolphins be..... just.... just awful

At least we won, and my WatchESPN didn't **** itself.

As much as I enjoy the competitive nature of a close game, anytime now we can start winning without the overtime.

I hope everybody trusts that Coach L is still a great coach. His two best players are sitting out because of transfer rules and his 3rd best player is out with a wrist injury. On top of that we lost our top 5 from last year.

Just be patient

The 2014 class is rock solid as well. This happens in hoops, unfortunately.

"just need to get better every day", takes a season or two, coach L is a proven commodity

Why do all the sports teams I like suck? And why am I still watching the Dolphins game?

Misery loves company.

I LOL'd at this, because watching the fish flub around the field, their D letting the Bucs go right up the field, tackle bad, and linebackers late to cover suddenly everything football was a blurred together suckfest that tragically seemed familiar. Oy.

Oh, and that my basketball team went OT and struggled...and won. Keep working guys!

I do, just sucks this year. I didn't think we'd be this bad.

Who would possibly do that?

Honestly, this guy is going to get the most out of this team and I have no doubt about that.

is it just me or has rion regressed a lot from last year?

Well with Rion being a starter now, he won't get as many open looks now because Defenses will be keying in on him as a three point specialist. That's how he was successful last season coming off the bench for McKinnie-Jones and Scott. Trey could push the floor and had decent moves cutting to the rim. Brown is just explosive, he needs a head of steam to get to the cup, so if you are always sitting on the outside waiting for your shot it's easy to just deny. Also if he can't hit that shot consistently night in and night out he can't pump fake and drive, which right now is his best move to get momentum to the rim. So yes I think at the start he will regress, but once Manu and Adams get going with creating offense then his stats will improve. But it again comes down to him having the concentration and determination to hit threes, and not feel pressured all the time.

It's two games and he was incredibly inconsistent last year.

Lots of blind optimism IMO, seems like you think this is last year's team.

Rion Brown came in with a lot of potential, borderline top 100 recruit. Never has even come close to living up to it.

Rion Brown was not a success last year, other than Reggie, he was the biggest disappointment. Went off against Tech in the middle of year, another game against BC and may have won us the game in the tournament against the Illini. He finished the year 29% from downtown, albeit one of the worst shooting starts to a season I have ever seen. I don't think he is that good of a shooter. His athleticism is best asset, but a good team will simply deny him the opportunity to drive and create. Bottom line, very inconsistent player, never lived up to his hype and now all of a sudden he has to be our best player. Would he even get minutes in a rotation for a serious team? How about even a top 25 team?

I just will never be able to root for Erik Swoope to get more playing time, regardless of our bench and depth. Now if the sport were football this may be a different story.

o and Garrius Adams blows. 0-13 from beyond the arc and most of them do not even land within the cylinder. Garrius Adams is awful. What happens when we play a team that knows how to play defense? Not Duke or 'cuse, but even a ****** Wake or BC? It's going to be really ugly.

Georgia Southern and St. Francis did not have anyone on their roster above 6'8? Will Kirk be able to do anything against 7 footers? What about talented, athletic 7 footers?

And o boy has Tonye been disappointing to start the year. Wow, a lot of people had high hopes for him....

Imagine being Angel Rodriguez or Sheldon McClellan on the bench having to watch this 30+ times this year?
