The first ever preseason coaches poll for the 2026-27 college football season has been released and the Miami Hurricanes are ranked as the nation’s No. 7 team in the land.



The Miami Hurricanes will enter their second consecutive season inside the top 10 in the Coaches Poll rankings. Football kicks off in 31 days for the first game of the season against Stanford in Stanford, California.

I don't care how much they spent in the portal; they've yet to prove much of anything under Sark. ****, aside from Vince Young what has Texas really ever done to deserve so much credit?

We lost two elite edges, but Scott Moten and Lightfoot were all here making real plays. Wilson is legit and Blount is literally the only starter on the defense who must elevate his level of play. Toure's back made big plays Chase was there and doesn't have to do a whole lot to replicate Wes's production. We lost Scott and Thomas but we still have the rest of the secondary and Bryce is a dude. Thornton steps in.

Our defense was better than OSU last season when the season ended. IDC what anyone says. Yes Miami's depth needs to step up too for us to be really elite but the questions for the OSU defense this season are all over the starting depth chart. They added 4 transfers to their front 7. We didn't bring Earl Little to play nickel for us. We didn't need to go shopping for half of our front 7. I think Walker Smith and Atkinson should be formidable together but that's a lot of unknown. Does their LB play take a step back? Does not having Downs expose them? Downs was the engine that drove that defense.

I don't know what OSU has outside of their transfers and I watched a lot of them because my wife is a big time Buckeye fan. When I look at their depth chart I recognize names but I don't remember them doing much. Most are guys I recognize from the recruiting trail and not much else. I do remember seeing Downs erase mistakes and McDonald wreck the inside. Styles and Reese contributing and Igbinosun being their number 1 corner despite being a grabby average player. Devin Sanchez and Kenyatta Jackson are probably their most notable returning non transfer players and I just don't see them as game changing dominant type dudes.

OSU is gonna score, their Offense is going to be good but are they much better in the trenches cause that seemed to be when the offense struggled. When their offense struggles is that D going to be anything like what it was for them last season? I don't see it. The defense is taking a step back without Downs and Styles and the offense isn't going to look any different unless their O line gets way better or their running game gets more explosive

OSU lost the three guys on their defense that actually were tone setters. I know they brought in John Walker but I didn't see any of the other young guys really flash the sort of ability that Downs Styles and McDonald brought. I expect them to step back unless they have a couple dudes on the D really emerge. I got em dropping 2 to 3 games this season.

Wonder when Lanning will start getting the same heat Mario and Franklin got for not achieving pre-season hype.

Lanning will be exposed if he misses the playoffs, or gets into the playoffs and get his legs jacked back like the last two years.

This Miami conspiracy theory stuff is insane. They love us. We are ratings monsters

The minute we lost at Louisville last year they knocked us back to 9. SMU got us knocked back to 13 or 14. We had to prove that we belonged. The networks love us. The Committee thought we were a flash in the pan. We have to change their minds this year. Getting as far as we did last year helped us a lot.

What surprised me was not them picking us over ND; I expected that because of head to head. What surprised me was the Committee glazing Alabama.

 

Every poll seems to have us at 6th or 7th.

They just can’t swallow putting us ahead of their favorites.

 

Pretty big changes have taken hold: for the first time since 2008, six teams received multiple first place votes.

I’m only offended we weren’t one of the six, and we beat a third of them.

I could see either of those thing happening. Anything can happen week 1. Louisville is being slept on big time, and Clemson is always a tough game in Death Valley. Best case scenario is Miami beating an unbeaten, top 15 Clemson team who beat LSU, beating top-5 Notre Dame on the road, then beating potentially undefeated, top-12 Louisville in the ACC championship game.

If it played out that way, I don’t see how Miami isn’t the #1 seed.
