Haulcy is actually probably bigger than Pruitt so it makes sense that he could play S and move closer to the line in packages. Their is some S talent in the portal. Both reports can be true! Geo mentioned it about 90 minutes ago. Hopefully, it was a short and productive meeting.

These were 3 WR base offenses. I'm sure it's different if you're consistently in 10 personnel or run a lot of empty. Miami doesn't and no one I've been around has either.

The only positions I've ever seen willingly recruited to be 3 deep are at RB and DL. We wanted 5-6 RBs on the roster and wanted at least 8 DEs and at least 8 DTs. Even on the OL the number was usually around 12-14 total for 5 positions.

Oh wow, I always had the backup+2 rule in my head. Not too far off.

I would calculate based on 11 personnel + Nickel defense both as bases. That's 72 players, with room to add for special teams (mostly S and LB) and depending on play style on both offense and defense (extra DTs if you're in a run-heavier conference for example).

Count would look like this:

QB - 4
RB - 4
TE - 4
WR - 8
T - 6
G - 6
C - 4
DT - 6
Edge - 6
MLB - 4
WLB - 4
CB - 8
FS - 4
SS - 4
