Yea i disagree completely, you are looking at the distinction from college and professional as are they getting paid or not and im looking at it as these are kids out of high school vs adults who spent three years in college. Thats a huge difference and yall know it

It’s that simple, im not treating someone differently based on if they’re getting paid or not. Grown adults get treated differently than teenagers or young adults, thats always been the case and that shouldn’t change now because they’re finally getting paid what they’re owed out in the open

Also we’re not gonna act like it didn’t exist before, these players been getting paid for ever, now that its not under the table anymore we should look at them as professionals? Lol cmon

Saying football players getting paid under the table is the same as a signed contract facilitated by the player representation is laughable especially since our star QB literally got sued for breach of contract.

I’m willing to show some grace to a 19 year old DE that plays football for UM and gets $50k a month than I would be willing to show grace to a 31 year old DE for the Eagles.

I guess I'm at "these kids today" age but I've been working real paycheck jobs since I was 14 and yea even when I was making minimum wage I was expected to show up to work and do my job in order to get paid.
 
Issues are being conflated.

This isn’t about getting paid or not and how that gives us a right to know or not. It’s about protecting the privacy of someone dealing with a personal matter. Mario said exactly that - dealing with a personal matter. The folks trying to make it something it isn’t are (mostly) being nosy and selfish and are trying to blur lines to justify their own desire to know.

Go ahead and drag me now. What I said will still be true.

You are absolutely correct, and many of us who are basically saying these guys are pros also said that doesn’t give us the right to know about every personal issue, just as we don’t have that right with a pro athlete. The postion was simply that once paid, the standard of how much we are entitled to know is the same now whether paid in college or by an NFL/NBA team.

Privacy rules and laws apply for paid athletes as well and should be respected.

You are free to disagree and be wrong. College football players are now professional athletes. That is indisputable. They're similarly situated to minor league baseball players (big age ranges, big pay ranges, and many trying to go to the next level), with the exception they also go to class (sometimes). Maybe the better analogy is Major Nine producing Apple of My Eye for Rick Ross (for $$$) while he was still a music student at UM. At that time, he was both an amateur football player AND a professional music producer.

You are conflating professionalism with being a professional (and quite possibly being mature with being a professional). But, not all professionals show good professionalism. There are countless examples of this in literally every industry.

On the flip side, look at the way Malichi Toney conducts himself. He is a young professional, demonstrating a high degree of professionalism in how he conducts himself and handles his business. Bain and Mesidor, albeit a bit older, were the same way. Would you say they aren't/weren't professionals during their time at UM?

I think what you are actually trying to express (even though you keep using the wrong word) is maturity. And the general expectation of increased maturity with increased age. But understand that is an entirely different consideration than whether these young men are professionals or not. The moment an athlete signs a contract and takes a check for his/her work, he/she becomes a professional athlete.

I think there are a few who struggle (or downright cannot) to differentiate between the issues. Not you. Not some of the others. You know the ones who don't get it same as I do.
