Highlights Miami = Bama

The topic of this thread is Steele's perspective from his time as Bama's DC in 2007 as it applies to Miami.

It's not about trolls, we have KTDT for that and it's not a referendum on Mario's performance, we have 200+ threads about that.

My religious beliefs prohibit me from visiting that website. Was it a legit comparison he was drawing between the cultures?

Edit: I should have just kept scrolling... @JD08 answered my question. Seems Steele was just making an observation about initial struggles and similar culture issues to overcome, without saying or implying UM is on some sort of Bama trajectory. None of that should be controversial.

I think it’s a good piece and appreciate Steele’s perspective. Over a span of 7-8 years or so prior to that 07’ Alabama team they averaged about 7 wins a season and had a couple 3-4 win stinkers worked in. Not saying we have Bama in our sites but they’ve had some lean years going back some time.

I’m also not comparing Mario and Saban. But I do believe Mario’s style of management mirrors his and not just due to his time spent with him. There’s the eternal argument of delegator vs specialist as far as coaching style goes. Each have been successful and each have failed. Both Mario and Saban obviously got into the delegator role and strongly rely on infrastructure and a premium staff. AKA the anti Manny approach to program management.

Humbly I’ll say Mario learned here as a successful player on a successful set of squads. He’s learned from the best whether we like Saban or not. He’s also managed his own success based on his personal traits. I’m not saying it’s a guarantee, but the pain right now is necessary. Good news is we have a president who fully supports the program, other admin support in place, increasing financial flexibility, and a trustworthy AD.

Many can’t see the forest for the trees. It’s way to early to objectively assess Mario’s short tenure. We can choose to look at the big picture and the positives that have taken place since 12/6/21 or dwell on the short term negatives even though those negatives may very well provide more positives in the long run.

name a positive outside of ruiz funding our recruiting lol

realize Mario is more Jim Harbaugh than Nick Saban

- both returned to alma mater
- both CEO types
- both no real coordinator experience
- both boring offense
- both at programs that will recruit in that 5-10 range
