Lol; no they didn’t, & I can go into great details to completely debunk this. Coach L himself said the switch would hurt recruiting. The magical Final 4 run was based upon good coaching & a team full of solid guys, but we’ve missed out on a ton of the upper echelons. ****, KU got Peterson b/c Adidas literally paid for him on KU’s behalf.

Nike runs the most elite AAU circuit. I’ve been there homie; imma be there again next yr. The most elite kids r going to Nike schools b/c Nike dominates basketball & it’s not close. There’s a reason Adidas is putting all they have into Ant Edwards b/c he’s the coolest athlete they have & maybe if he could stop being so immature, he can finally be “the one” for Adidas to boost their perception.
Adidas has Ant Edwards football cleats... fell out of my chair laughing.

I have a serious question though because I'm old and no longer hip. But is Nike still number one with the youth? With all of the schools having Adidas stuff and I personally see a lot of Adidas out in the streets., is Nike Still The King with the young cats?

Does Nike give us a recruiting advantage or disadvantage outside of the money?

This great. Unfortunately I lost a bunch of weight about a year ago though and finally ordered some new Canes adidas stuff a couple days ago because none of my gear fit anymore. I did buy some vintage Nike stuff though also over the last year. But I was waiting like everyone else and just thought I have to have a Cpl more items for game days.

Yes & yes.

I’ve been very clear Adidas is a better streetwear brand, but Nike is a better athlete brand.

Although, Converse may be taking over streetwear in a yr or two

So I finally be able to go back to telling people to kiss my converse?

Y'all just let me know when the Adidas Miami apparels on 50% sale
Deal is thru June 2027 so likely to see sales next spring and summer. Tho it depends on inventory, I don't think Adidas is going to be ordering a bunch of Miami apparel to be manufactured. Looks like that might already be happening

Is it just me or does this move feel like the last bit of cancer from the Donna ****lala era has been removed.
Did Adidas offer us more money than any other brand when we signed with Adidas? If so, it was the correct decision.
Universities are corporations. How can they sell to someone other than the highest bidder for athletic wear?

Now you can counter that UM did not sell as much merchandise as an Adidas school as we would have as a Nike school, but that would be a fairly speculative argument, even if correct.

My point being we can be emotional about something that does not impact any of our lives in any meaningful manner, or we can hope that UM consistently aligns with whomever is paying the most money. To me the rest is just message board fodder, hence why we are discussing it here.

Lol do we even need an AD at this point? Seems like Joe E. and Mario can handle things fine
Yes for all the other sports. Mario’s been the football AD since he signed here

To your last question…NO.
There is no appreciable recruiting advantage in football.

There maybe some in basketball as top rated kids all play for AAU teams which are sponsored by and affiliated with one shoe company or another, and typically play on the circuit of one shoe company or another. But even then it’s not like these kids are so aligned with one company that they will foresake a college opportunity for more money because of it.

I think very often the adults care more about this than the kids.

The deal here is pretty simple, Nike offered more $ just like Adidas offered more $. Adidas could have matched and all reports are we would have kept Adidas. People get waaaaay too emotional over an apparel brand. It's strange. Bottom line is Miami got paid because Nike needs some extra exposure and advertising given their current struggles. They were willing to pay the $.

And it was probably Adidas who needed UM more when that deal was signed. And if it flips again in 10 years then so be it.
Why any adult cares is really beyond me. I can think of about 1000 more important things on a daily basis than which shoe company sponsors the school I cheer for.
