App State-Miami to Air on ESPN or ESPN2 - Appalachian State Mountaineers | Official Athletics Site

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University football’s much-anticipated home game versus five-time national champion Miami (Fla.) on Saturday, Sept. 17 will be televised nationally on ESPN or ESPN2 and kick off at noon, ESPN and the Sun Belt Conference announced on Friday.

The broadcast marks the first time ever that a Saturday game played at a Sun Belt institution will air live on ESPN or ESPN2. ESPN will announce which channel the game will be carried on following the conclusion of games played on Sept. 10.

“We’re grateful to ESPN and the Sun Belt Conference for the opportunity to showcase our football program and our University to the nation,” Appalachian State head coach Scott Satterfield said. “It will be a great experience for our team, our students, our alumni, our community and all of App Nation.”

The contest will be the third regular-season game in Kidd Brewer Stadium history to be shown on ESPN or ESPN2. Appalachian State beat Western Carolina, 35-27, in the second college football game ever shown live on ESPN on Sept. 22, 1979 and hammered Wofford, 70-24, in a Friday night ESPN2 broadcast on Oct. 31, 2008. Appalachian State is 10-3 all-time in games played on ESPN or ESPN2 (3-2 on ESPN, 7-1 on ESPN2).

2016 Appalachian State football season tickets, which are the only avenue to guarantee a seat for the Mountaineers-Hurricanes duel, are on sale now and available online at by clicking HERE, by phone at (828) 262-2079 and in person at the Appalachian State athletics ticket office, located at the Holmes Center. Season-ticket sales have already surpassed last year’s total and four sections of Kidd Brewer Stadium are already completely sold out.

Better get them early, 3332 ft above sea level. Big guys will be gassed.

Good. Looking foward to seeing a rabid D-Line get 10+ sacks on national TV.

That is a GREAT POINT! The altitude will definitely test our big players stamina, especially considering they are coming from Sea Level and 100% humidity. The good thing is UM is deep along the dline so we can go 3 deep across the line.

Go Canes

Canes come to play should be no problem...

Remember, Michigan didnt think they were "that Michigan that proved to be" at the start of 1Q either...

they were shell shocked at EO4Q though...

This TV game is a touch disrespectful (or just perception of Miami) as ESECPN is even thinking a loss/close game will happen. Cant imagine Bama vs App St (I know it isnt on schedule..settle down) ever being on TV...

Or look at it as another chance for Miami to get on TV.

I dont' really know much about what UM has on the roster, but knowing Richt I would guess y'all either win by 6 or win by 30.

I don't see Miami losing, no matter how good APSt is.

Regardless of ESPN's hopes or intentions, the more Miami plays on the national stage (and plays well), the better for the program.

Richt will have our dudes ready, and we gon' eat.

On paper it should not be close.... I hope Richte doesn't allow it to be

Totally agree...Miami should walk into ESECPN's trap and destroy App St...turn the tables on them...good publicity...there is fun in that by itself...the adversary sets a trap..you walk into it knowingly...and upend their best laid plans...

Not suggesting this would be a signature win for Richt...could be an early "statement" game if/when the Canes dismantle App St...pundits..."wow...did younsee tje Canes roll to a 30+ pt win...has Richt regained his mojo??"

The naysayers...yes even on this board...will howl if Miami "squeeks by" with a 7-10 pt (or less) victory...even worse if last second FG...pundits.."omg has Richt lost his touch..did Golden leave a dumpster fire..blah blah..blah"
