A quick update following Miami's 38-26 win versus Virginia Tech:

Points For: Yesterday's offensive output moved the 2021 Hurricanes to 8th most prolific offense in the last twenty five years. Since Van Dyke took over, the offense is averaging 34.4 points per game in Power 5 contests.

Points Allowed: Although the 26 points allowed last night was their lowest since Central Conn State, it moved the 2021 Hurricanes to the most generous in points allowed, supplanting the 2012 team.

Virginia Tech: The series has been marked by substantial wins or losses. The average margin of victory for either team has been 14 points in the last 25 encounters. Eight of the last ten games saw the victor win by 12 or more points.

Additional fun facts:
- Although points allowed continue to be less than ideal, this is the third consecutive game that Miami has lowered their PA versus the previous week
- If we isolate to Weeks 5 - 11, where Van Dyke took over against Power 5 opposition, the Hurricanes offense in 2021 would rank as the third most productive in the last twenty five years with 241 points scored. That is only eclipsed by the 2009 squad (250 points) and 2001 team (268 points).
- Meanwhile in Austin, the more well-funded Texas Longhorns not only have two fewer wins than the Hurricanes this season but have an even more generous defense (33 points allowed per game versus Miami's 30).

He was, for 3 years. Still can't figure out what's going on with this one, though. I guess some combination of regression, inexperience, ****** players, more film, better offenses, poor evals/recruiting. IDK. But it's a stark difference from what we saw in 2018.
Think he did it mostly with Golden players and he could recruit replacements at high enough level.. He has been here 6 years and he STILL cant find one quality LB..

GojiraCane nailed it. The D line is essential to make his D work and his LB recruiting non existent. Also, the targeting rule completely changed the way his D is trained to tackle.

Mostly recruiting. Failed to recruit same/better level linebackers and simply failed overall to get sufficient cornerbacks. It caught up with the team in 2020 and 2021, just like Coker’s inability to recruit wide receivers caught up with the offense in 2006.

He's played 2 years without linebackers and it shows. The last 2 years have be equivalent of playing 11vs10 for a lot of plays. This year was even worse than last year because we don't have a single NFL DE on the roster. (I think we can all agree McCloud likely will be a 3-4 LB if he does get drafted)
