miami 3rd best hc opening

If we're willing to pay $4 million, as was reported, and USC is willing to pay 4.5-5 million, as is being reported, that's not substantially more. Yes, they have better fan support. Yes, they were getting 70,000 when they were 0-11 in 1999. So what? That doesn't make it easier to recruit to USC. Winning makes it easier to recruit.

USCe is arguably a better HC slot, because they will pay more than we will - likely substantially more - and their fans will fill that stadium to the brim, regardless of how terrible the product on the field is. Not too long ago they were a perennial doormat, but still had unbelievable fan and monetary support. In short, their expectations are far lower than ours.

I can't imagine anyone could persuasively argue that USCe has a better potential to win national titles than UM. That's laughable. But that isn't USCe's standard, unlike UM.

They'll pay substantially more? Based on the pool of candidates they CAN lure, they won't offer a guy like Herman $5.5M. I can envision offering UM offering Herman 3.5m - you really think USCe would offer him $5M?

We are a better coaching destination because 'In the Air Tonight' is 1000x better than 'Sandstorm'.

USCe is in a isht recruiting location compared to the other $EC teams in their division and even the best coach will have a hard competing in that piranha pool.

USCw is in a great recruiting location but in arguably the toughest P5 division in CFB.

UM is in a great recruiting location in not even arguably the weakest P5 division in CFB. Miami offers the clearest shot to the top with the most available talent to do it.

I would not be surprised at all if they offer Herman $5M. Also, I suspect the budget for the rest of the coaching staff is a lot higher than ours.

Again, I'm not saying USCe is a better program than UM, not by a longshot. We revolutionized CFB in the '80s, continued the success in the early '90s, and then rose like a phoenix from the ashes -- because of BUTCH -- back to the top. And I'm confident Butch can do it again.

But, I'm stating why some might think that USCe is a better coaching destination than UM. They can't plausibly argue that USCe's ceiling is higher than UM's on the field. It's the other stuff - i.e. money, lowered expectations, and unrelenting fan support.

Yeah so nice to go to the SEC east to finish behind UT, UF and UGA. Spurrier winning was an anomoly. Back to the basement. Spurrier left faster than Bolt.

If we were competitive financially you wouldn't constantly hear names like Mario Cristobal. We would not have made cheap hires like Shannon and Golden.

Our history shows that we don't write the checks. I hope that has changed, but I won't believe it until it happens.

For further evidence of how cheap we are, look at our Athletic Director. Is there any P5 program in the country that would have Blake James as its AD?

Bleacher has south carolina as number 2 and the u as 3 for best head coaching vacancy

Does Butch care how some media guys, needing something to talk about, rank the desirability of our HC position? He wants the job! That's all that matters.

If money is of little object to them and they think he's the guy / they'll have to outbid us to get him then sure.

Anyone who thinks South Carolina is a better coahing spot than Miami can't be taken seriously.

It is if you have no intention of trying to win an NC. If you want a NC shot, then Miami is the best opening. Coastal, beat Noles a second time and to the playoffs. All while recruiting from you office using strings and cans because you do not need a phone for the distances involved.

Flat wrong. The entire recruiting process sells USC. I've seen it in action. They have somebody like Marcus Allen greet the recruit in front of the old historic physical education building, which is a centerpiece of campus. Heritage Hall is steps away. The song girls are working out in tight warmup outfits at the adjacent building. The football practice field is just to the west, along with the Dedeaux Field and the track and field venue. All first rate. Likewise the McDonald's swim stadium that was built for the 1984 Olympics. Then they walk toward the center of campus, stopping at the Tommy Trojan statue outside Bovard Auditorium. Very quaint section of campus. Doheny Library is on the other side, students sitting on the grass alongside the fountains. The Student Union building is right there also. It's a small campus but picturesque with lots of landmarks and natural greeting areas. I always have to laugh at outsiders who condemn USC based on surroundings. They have no clue. You don't think about those things at all while a student. The campus is excellent and there is amazing camaraderie.

Game day takes it to a different level, with all the colorful activities on campus including the band marching to the stadium. Recruits make that walk across Exposition Boulevard to the Coliseum. I've seen the smiles on their faces. They are already hooked.

That type of thing describes campuses all over the country. Not merely USC. That is the example I am most familiar with. Other schools may not have the tradition or recruiting base or pull of USC but the campus aspects contribute to how a recruit views the school. They can envision friends hanging around on campus and then walking to the game to see them play. Miami has none of that. It won't impact every kid but we can't be ignorant enough not to recognize the steady leak. As Jason Sehorn said today, "It's a drain on the program."

Here is that picture I took on Saturday. It is students lining up at halftime at 42-0 to use the shuttle buses back to campus. While this picture reflects badly on Golden I kept thinking how ridiculous it was in general, to ask students to make such a long commute in both directions. Some students who would otherwise attend every game simply aren't going to consider this type of annoyance and time expenditure.

Halftime Surrender.webp

Fiembaum said UCF is a better job then Miami right now. These guys just love bashing us. USC hasn't done **** since Reggie left yet there still a great job. It's miami everybody's gonna hate us. Especially these $ec loving pricks like fiembaum who knows if butch comes in these players bama and other top schools are picking from us won't fly anymore and that $ec dominance is done with.

I dont even think south carolina has ever won a big bowl game

SC never won its first bowl game until Brad Scott left FSU as OC to coach them sometime in the early 1990s. They had been playing football for 100 years and never won a bowl game.

Unfortunately for Scott he accomplished too much in his first year and couldnt continue to achieve their loow expectations and was fired a few years later.

Its almost like you wrote that whole thing out without knowing this thread is about South Carolina, not Southern California.

Using the potential strength of the SEC east division may be the lamest con I've ever seen. What happened to "any one, anywhere, anytime" ? If anything, playing in a challenging conference where you are constantly testing yourself against the best is a pro. With your logic, coaching in the sun belt is the best option.

How quick we forget in 1987 Miami went undefeated even though they played:
#20 UF
#1 0 Arkansas
#4 FSU
#1 0 Notre Dame
#8 South Carolina
#1 Oklahoma

I really hope our AD and next coaching staff returns to this mentality, eliminates all the FCS opponents from our out of conference scheduling, and makes sure our players are playing against the best of the best. They could also invest the money we save from not paying FCS schools and put it towards an indoor practice facility.
