Thanks for doing this. Interesting that in basically 1 recruiting cycle for Mario it’s the #2 class for UM and the most high end LB talent we’ve had on paper in 12 years. Our starting MLB is now the lowest rated scholarship player on the roster.
This, like offensive line, was vigorously addressed in the offseason. From a roster building perspective it's quite fascinating to see how they're addressing different positions year over year.

****!!! Ween gotten **** from our top 10 highest recruits at that position in **** near 15-20 years. That’s awful! Sean Spence had the best career here outta the players in that list. You’d think that at a school that has produced the likes of Ray Lewis, Michael Barrow, Darrin Smith, Nate Webster, Dan Morgan…. the list goes on and on, that we would’ve had some better production outta our top 10 recruited players at this position. Damnit mane!

And only 2 of them became impact players.
It's just a ridiculous number of players to sign at one position - you do that and you severely impact recruiting the following year. You potentially set up the conditions where they all leave at roughly the same time, meaning that you have to try to do the same thing again in three to four years and thus perpetuate the cycle.

It's like signing 5 quarterbacks in one year.

The 2008 class still makes me scratch my head - 9 linebackers! What were we thinking?

Yea way too many but some of the kids were hybrids and basically edge rushers/DE. And about 3 either got kicked out or never made it in. MRob and Andrew Smith played with their hand in the dirt. Hardin came in 6’5 230 and was moving to DE but had a career ending injury. Wylie was really a safety and players like Marti got kicked out. If all things panned out it would have been interesting because they had some athletes but it didn’t.

Pinckney was much better than his rating and Huff is much, much worse.
Wes is now the third highest rated LB on the team. What a difference a recruiting class makes.

Did Ragone get tenure….seems like he must have cause I can’t think of any other reason he’s still on the team other than maybe to help pick up the practice dummies when they’re done ( of course he has to be careful there cause he might be mistaken for one )
