Most of these voters are just looking at scores and highlights on ESPN.
What they saw was a 1 point win against a 4 loss VT team and highlights that kept pointing out that we needed a 4th qtr rally to do it.

just like anything else this is all depending on how the media presents it and we all know it’s never presented very well when it comes to Miami..

Were towards the bottom of 1 loss teams which is about right, if a 2 loss team jumps us then that’s not right.

I’ll tell you what, Miami with Manny Diaz calling the defense is a lot better than the Miami that played NC State. We deserve to be in the Top 10 now when we didn’t deserve to be there pre-Va Tech... And we should be there again after taking care of business with Ga Tech next week.

Miami and lots of these teams are bulge bracket teams that could win or lose to each other on any given Saturday. None look dominant or as strong as Bama, OSU and Clemson with Lawrence at QB.

We’re also getting better. Couch emerging and Brooks improving is a big deal. WRs gaining confidence and starting to make the hard catches and even win contested balls. Jordan back and Mallory making progress. This team is improving now. King doesn’t need to carry it on his shoulders like he did at NC State for us to win. That’s huge.

Quick prologue: In baseball projections there is a simple projection system that is sort of the standard that fancy metrics try to beat, called Marcel. Most models cannot beat Marcel in projections. In football, there is a similar simple model to project/evaluate team strength called Simple Rating System.

Miami is 16th in Simple Rating System this season. Taking out MAC teams, who have played only two games and are MAC teams, Miami jumps up to 13th. I use a model that I built that uses components of two pretty basic measures (Expected Points Added and Success Rate) and incorporate Simple Rating System figures into the model. My model has them 15th in the country.

What's funny to me is that the only matchup between two teams in the top-25 of the SRS model this weekend was Miami vs. Virginia Tech.

Tulsa is the top-25, but SMU (the ranked team) isn't.

Miami has beaten #23 (VT), #29 (NC State), #37 (Virginia), #46 (Pitt), #47 (UAB), #62 (Louisville), #91 (Florida State) and lost to #3 (Clemson). They've won five games against top-50 teams this season.

Alabama has won two. #17 (Georgia), #33 (Texas A & M)

Cincinnati has won two. #29 (SMU), #50 (Army)

Florida has won two. Same two as Alabama.

Notre Dame has won two. #3 (Clemson), #46 (Pitt)

To me, it's time to stop treating this Canes team as a garbage heap and put some real respect on what they've accomplished after last year. Only team in the country with five top-50 wins thus far (sans MAC teams).

This is what happens when you have back to back ****** seasons like we did. Writers and the general media have zero confidence in our ability to handle our business on the field on a consistent basis. They are literally expecting us to fall back down to Earth like in 2017. Coaches understand the difficulties that we and all teams are facing so they can appreciate our winning in spite of the odds - hence the #9 vs. #12 rankings.

This is why we CANNOT have bad seasons, and having so many bad seasons over the last 10 years has just killed our perception. Each year we lose to **** teams we should beat, and we underperform on the big stage against good teams. In spite of our issues, if we could punch above our weight class and for example take Clemson to a close OT loss, that would do wonders for our reputation.

To contrast, LSU is having a **** poor season. But the entire sports world is going to give them the benefit of the doubt that this was a fluke year, and they will be a ranked team at the start of 2021. All because they have so many recent winning seasons to their credit so they have credibility.

Bottom line is we have to continue to expect the disrespect until we show we are a perennial 10-win team. We need like 3 seasons in a row of finishing no worse that 10-2 with bowl wins and landing near or inside the Top 10. Until that happens, this is about what we can continue to expect.

Both indiana and wisconsin have tough games this Saturday. Indiana got ohio state so they most likely fall, wisconsin got a ranked undefeated northwestern.

Was thinking the same exact thing.
The AP voters could look really stupid if both those teams lose.

Then again they would probably put NW ahead of us if that happened unless we beat the Jackets by 80 or something.
