Miami -10.5 at SMU Saturday

Chris Johnson would still be at Miami if he was that dude fr .. now we treating him like Barry sanders smh who gives af if he plays we will win by two scores if Carson Beck doesn’t **** the bed again
we will never use a guy like CJ and now lyle properly in this run scheme. it makes no sense why we recruit these kids who arent going to do what mario/mirabal/dawson prefer them to do in the run game.

Every time I saw Chris Johnson with the ball in his hands here I wasn’t impressed .. I agree about Lyle he’s a good back but this scheme doesn’t seem to suit his skill set

Road game in league against a team that has lost 1 ACC game in 2 years.

This line should have started around 7.

I was stunned it opened double digits.

Just like Louisville was an atrocious line as Brohm basically Never loses by more than 10.

Never thought GT last year should have been double digits either if King played. GT doesnt lose at home under Key, and had 2 weeks to prepare.

SMU has one of the worst pass defenses in the FBS. They are ranked in the 130’s in multiple statistics. They are pretty good against the run and one of the better teams at pressuring the quarterback in the country though.

So naturally we will come out and run into a brick wall for three quarters. If there’s ever going to be a game where the quarterback and receivers should be licking their chops it’s this one. Let’s see if our game plan reflects the very obvious or if we continue to be against scoring points.

Single-score win if we win at all

We’ve covered every game this year besides Bethune and Louisville (obviously).

For what that’s worth.

Miami falls in with most of the passing teams they've played, stats wise. So they should be able to find success.

The one thing I noticed about SMU against the run is the teams they've played have the following rankings in rushing yards/game:

Baylor: 89th
Missouri State: 113th
TCU: 104th
Syracuse: 117th
Stanford: 131st
Clemson: 114th
Wake: 77th

Although we haven't been great in the running game, Miami will be the best team they've played by a healthy amount.

On the flip side, these are the rush defense rankings of the teams Miami has played:

Notre Dame: 17th
USF: 28th
Florida: 31st
FSU: 33rd
Louisville: 21st
Stanford: 44th

I was actually pretty shocked by that. Especially considering SMU will be the 15th ranked rush defense. That's 7 games played against teams in the top 50 and 6 games against teams in the top 35. We would have played almost 20% of the top rushing defenses in the country.

Pretty shocked by how big that injury report is for smu. The probably guys are just gamesmanship plays tho. Brinson and Jennings. Lol

Exactly! We already faced off against a Malzahn offense (who Lashlee learned a lot from) and that was with a more mobile QB. I'm not sure why anyone is worried.
Im a fan but , he got me a little scared right now

Just watched Lashlee interviewed and essentially say they need to take away the run.

We've been very good in the middle 8 this year when winning the toss/deferring.

Notre Dame: Scored with 12 seconds left in the first half, got the ball to start the 2nd half, scored again. Scored 14 points without ND touching the ball, an absolute masterclass in middle 8 management (yes, I'm very well aware Daniels made an insane catch, but the process was correct)

USF: We got the ball to start the game.

Florida: We got a field goal with about 1:30 to go in the half, the gators punted, and we got the ball back with under 40 seconds, up 13-0 on a rainy night, on our own 25. Knowing we'd get the ball out of the half, we ran the clock out. Came out of the half, and did score a TD to significantly win the middle eight, but Marty Brown got completely robbed by an egregious call. Again, good process/coaching

FSU: Beck threw a TD to Toney with 4 mins left in the half to take a 21-3 lead, but it was nullified by an awful Marion motion penalty. So we punted, FSU tried to sneak in a score to end the half, our defense stopped it, and we ran out the last 30 seconds of the half. Got the ball after the half, scored on a 10 play, 75 yard drive in 5 minutes to, once again, win the middle eight (essentially).

Louisville: We got a field goal with 2 minutes left to go in the half, and then forced a Louisville punt, that essentially ended the half. Problem here is we got the ball to open the 2nd half, and went three and out. Still won the middle eight, but didn't capitalize fully because the offense had a poor drive. Good process, not great result.

I know it's super cool to **** all over our coach. I mean, it's not, but hey, go nuts. But we need to actually watch the games and comprehend them, at least a little bit. Or at least give it a college try.

Mario has many warts. He's done many dumb things. Playing the middle 8 all year has not been one of those things. We've been excellent. So when you ask "does anyone have confidence in Mario's ability to milk the clock at the end of half, score, then get the ball right back to start the second half in an ideal world how it's supposed to work?", I will answer your question with a question, have you paid any attention at all?
This is great

Couple times there were some instances I thought the offense should be more aggressive

But the defense has been **** near perfect in this area.
btw
we rank 104th in yards before contact.
121st in miss tackles forced rate by our RBs

But hey we rank top 15 in Short Yardage+Goalline Runs.... but SMUs defense is 2nd in the country in those situations lol. Based on SMUs RunD performance so far, this is a pretty terrible matchup given our Run Scheme.... On the flip side SMU is a decent run team and we have legit like the worst tackling grades in the country. But SMU can't pass all that well.

133rd in qb design run rate (but 5th in EPA in the country on those plays). However Beck is Legit like last in the country in EPA per scramble on dropbacks. Literally don't think he's picked up a single first when he's decided to scramble. He consistently is getting tackled like 2 yards short on them.
correct me if I’m wrong here but weren’t we #1 in yards before contact in 2023, and possibly 2024?
