Miami -10.5 at SMU Saturday

It’ll look like their playoff game against Penn State. Maybe Jennings plays cleaner without interceptions, but just physically overmatched.

35-17 or 35-24. My only caveats are 1. who are we on the road. We saw 2 different versions of ourselves in Tallahassee and 2. What do we look like at noon/11am local time? Haven’t played early all year.

I think the noon game will help. Early game, not sitting around all day waiting, heightened urgency because of it.

Interesting enough they are good against the run. That seems to be their identity on D. So does Dawson try to cram it down their throat or does he go after their weaknesses. Against FSU we relented and went after their weak secondary until the 4th quarter started. I hope we have this strategy ready. We need to put points on the board quickly and make them play from behind.

They are 121st in time of possession. Obviously by design via Lashlee but this is their 5th straight game. They’re facing a lot of plays on defense. I’m hoping this plays right into our hands in that we can get a lot of plays off and just wear their asses out. They’re small on the front 7. I do hope we throw a little more early to open up the run late, but hopefully they’re gassed in the 2nd half and we can start running through those arm tackles like we have a propensity for doing. I trust our defense to be good throughout the game, and hopefully we can get a little lead and just beat them up.

They’re 90th in yards per game allowed but 44th in yards per play. Just shows you how many plays they’re facing because of the offense. 5 Saturdays in a row, might be ripe for a knockout.
 
This is a game where we gotta know our personnel. I know Mario likes to try to ground & pound, but it would behoove us to change up our philosophy.

SMU is **** near last against the pass, but are a top 20 defense against the run. Here’s the crux; they also meet at the QB…a lot. 10th in the nation; the bright side? We bolster a top 10 OL in sacks allowed. If we come out w a quick passing game, not those WR screen bull ****, but 3-step back drops & release, we should be able to exploit them at will.

Now, here’s the issue; SMU can tote the rock. That’s y I said it behooves us to actually be a bit more pass happy. Going into a hostile environment coming out flat will be more less a UL ending vs. Stanford. We need to set the tone & take their will on the score board.
 
Not worried at all like our pussifed fanbase. They are not good at all on defense. The top 20 versus the run is skewed due to the teams they faced....East Texas A&M, Baylor, Missouri St, TCU, Syracuse, Clemson and Wake Forest all in the bottom third of running teams in the nation. Miami is in the bottom third as well but none of those teams had our OL and our 3 RBs.

The Wake game has me less worried than previously. Yes every game is different but getting two turnovers at their own five and not being able to put that game away was some corching, especially the last one. That was an ugly loss.

Let's see what team shows up for us this week. They can't run the ball. Jennings being nicked up and not running really hurts their offense. Take Brinson out and the only other problem is LB's covering TE Maryland. That is a problem. We should win easily, but I will now question what team shows up every game.

If the reports are true and Mario wants a more methodical offense to help the defense to cover up some depth issues then IDK why we dont do just that, the 2-3 quick step pass game is where Beck thrives, it is essentially a long handoff so we should still milk clock without chucking it deep and our defense is tailor made to play with a lead, get up big and let them pin their ears back.

Big upsets were national news a dozen years ago. Now? Any team can be beat from one week to the next by any other team.

A team’s last game has minimal relevance to the one being played now.

That wasn’t the case 10 years ago.

If this is 2015 instead of 2025, does anyone think a team like penn state loses to UCLA? Or Alabama loses opening day to a half-a$$ed FSU squad? Or Vandy in the SEC is now better than LSU and Texas. and Indiana in the B10 is now way ahead of Michigan?

All valid points but it’s hard for me to call a 32k stadium hostile.
