Mensah better than Carr

Part of the issue with the Notre Dame favoritism is that people will be thinking of the Canes team AS IF it were led by Beck. Beck is a good game manager quarterback who will have a long career as a backup QB in Denver or Seattle. The injury took something out of that arm, which is something a lot of us weren't willing to admit, but I think Dawson understood.

With Mensah, Dawson can go into South Bend and play Cam Ward Football. That's horrible for the Irish, even if our Defense is only a reasonable comparison to what it was in 2025.
Becks arm should get stronger. He had TJS one year ago. Most MLB pitchers take 14+ months to remover from TJS and some don't regain full strength, sometimes that's stronger than it was previously, until 18-24 months.

Since D$ and others have had him breaking down Mensah seems fair to get his take on Carr.

Surprised he gave him as much love as he did. Brooks seemed to appreciate his presence snap IQ. I think if you read between the lines you can see that the film showed potential but not a player who is putting it altogether and is winning agaisnt good coverage. Kid makes the throws when they are there but there's isnt much tape of him beating good coverage besides the backshoulder fade.

The lack of tight window, high accuracy balls (besides the backshoukder fades) shows up in the breakdown and he highlights some of those inconsistencies that won't show up in a highlight tape.

Very few plays where Carr is making the high pressure play when you have to have it. He honestly did more of that against us than most of his other opponents. I think he was able to have that success because we didnt have any film on him.

I think Brooks would say off record that Carr has the tools but isnt a finished product yet. Given that he is smart to be diplomatic with his content he is probably more complimentary to the lad than he might other wise be off record.

of course Carr isn't a finished product, it was his first year playing. He is the goods

I mean he is not much different than any other young qb playing with an immense talent advantage. There were less than 5 throws all year where he put the ball on the money in a tight window. Brooks showed more misses in tight coverage than hits in the breakdown.

Video showed that he has the arm talent to hit NFL throws that are WIDE *** OPEN. Throws a good deep ball and has good accuracy on his fade and back shoulder balls. He barely touches the MOF and while he is pretty good pre snap I didnt see many (any?) highlights that Austin broke down where he's doing a really good job of reading through progressions. There were a few plays where his feet were behind his eyes and Brooks implied that if he had better footwork he could have made the throw.

I am interested to see how he fares if/when the ND run game takes a big step back and/or the absence of Fields and Raridon affect his win rate on those 50/50 balls that he utilized so heavily. They still have a **** schedule so I expect him to have a field day against those weaker defenses but I think he will have a little sophomore slump against good comp this season.

We have to get the OL right before that game. It will be a physical matchup again. Only difference is, we won't have our OL from this season that completely took over games at times. Also we can hype up our DL all we want but part of the reason they were so good last year was because of how Bain and Mesidor could set the edge and dominate in the run game. Love was irrelevant. If Lightfoot starts, he's going to have to add weight and strength big time. Maybe Lowe comes back and starts but we've seen hyped up greentree kids do absolutely nothing. Can Blount take the next step and become a Bain type player? Not necessarily the impact but just the ability to move up and down the line and not look slow at edge. Wilson will be locked in to one of the edge spots. Do we get anything out of Scroggins, McConathy, or Pickett? Moten and Scott at DT should be a **** good duo. Somebody behind them will have to step up. What will we get out of Davis and Carter? Will any of the incoming freshman like Charles, Stancil, Campbell, Lafayette, Sainteus, Chukwurah, Nagle, or Bacon. I'd hold off on saying we have the advantage in the trenches.

As far as the rest of the team. Mensah is better than Carr is **** good too, our RB room is better, they have the clear advantage at TE and LB. They have an elite CB in Moore. Their secondary in general is pretty good every year. We probably have the best overall player in Toney. Our WR room should be **** good.

Lets be honest, both teams have absolute **** schedules until this game. Going to be one of the games of the year and could decide a playoff spot for us. Hopefully both teams are relatively healthy.

Hmmm, I've watched about 8 of their games this year. I don't know what you're talking about but the kid can SCRAMBLE IF HE HAS TO, just ask the UM DL. He is an extremely accurate passer and his arm strength is fine. Mensah is an excellent QB and we are lucky to have him but CJ Carr is going to be a star and I dislike ND more than anyone. I'm just calling it like I see it.
Who is better Carr or Mensah?

Which one would you rather have?

One of the worst games I ever attended. I don't think ND ever threw a pass in the second half, we just got abused and pushed around. It was so cold in the upper deck, compounded by the fact that we did absolutely nothing to make me cheer for, making the game a miserable one.

I rank this game and the final game in the OB as the top two.
I was there as well. Those opening bombs to Dorsett were the highlights of the game but he kinda dropped both. 🤦🏾‍♂️

well put me in the category that CJ Carr is a stud. Mendoza just won a heisman throwing yolo backshoulder throws, not that this matters but CJ Carr is infinately better than Mendoza.

They have similar styles. Carr has more arm talent but it doesnt matter until he shows that he can be accurate all over the field and has the confidence to make those plays when the coverage is tight.

I cant consider him anything more than the next avg QB to be overhyped at a major school playing a weak schedule until I see more of him making the plays for his talent and not the other way around.

I understand completely. Its just my opinion that Carr is the goods.
