I've been saying this for years. It happens to everyone. Gator fans back in 2009 thought I was the most ignorant SOB in American when I told them their time was coming and in a couple years they'd be lucky to be a top 20 team. It wasn't possible though, they had five 5 star safeties and Brantley (who was better than Tebow) as next years starter. Well guess what....

That loss didn't seem to affect recruiting or have the fans start questioning the coaching staff. This game already has fans questioning the coaching and I think it grabs the attention of some of the recruits.

The first loss will never affect those things but it was the first sign that they were on a slide back down to normalcy

The loss yesterday is the culmination of a slow and steady decline over the last 3 years. We're getting worst. Not better. Our mistakes are getting magnified and highlighted. Not cleaned up. Our scheme especially on defense is now being attacked, not improved upon. Teams see the game tape from games like Oregon, Houston, Louisville, the first half of the Ole Miss game, the first half of the Miami game 2 years ago, etc. They know how to absolutely pick apart Kelly's ridiculous, vanilla, predictable, and misaligned defense. They know we run a scheme which forces our ends to pinch on option while asking our linebackers to read dive and then flow to the outside while being blocked. Unheard of. They know we run ZERO creative blitz packages. They know our only standard blitz package is to bring a corner and roll the safety over top. They know we are possibly the worst zone defense in FBS. We get lost on crossing routes. We can't cover the seam. We can't cover the hook curl. They know we are not taught how to properly cover trips. They know we do not know how to switch on crossing routes. They know we run some weird confusing mix of zone and man on the same side of the field. They know how to beat us. Our scheme is broken and terrible. We will continue to decline until a change is made. Stubborn type A coaches though have a hard time accepting reality.

This! This is spot the fuq on.

Coker was bad at player evaluation. FSU coaches get bonuses base of recruiting rankings. You don't think they are more interested in the high ranked players more than the right ones even if they are not so highly ranked?
Butch couldn't miss on many players so he had psychologists evaluate his recruits even.....his words.

Cokers problem wasn't that he was bad at evaluating talent at all. His problem was horrible management skills & that he never bothered to have secondary plans available. He targeted the kids we wanted & he was gullible as ****. Would simply take all kids at their word & never have someone ready to pull the trigger incase that kid went elsewhere. I.e. Antoine smith,Adrian Peterson, etc.

He was bad at evaluating talent. You don't need to be a genius to target AP and Smith. It's down the roster where it showed up. He left Shannon crap.

Maybe you missed what I was saying. He targeted & evaluated nothing but monsters. THAT WAS THE PROBLEM... he didn't bother to even know who the back up plans were. He wasn't bothering to evaluate the kids we eventually got because they were 8 out of 10 never targets we intended to sign. So I guess to a certain extent your point is valid because he didn't do the full Rhelm of his job. But a talent evaluator is someone who has an eye for skill and can pick it out. With **** near every kid he picked they were beasts so the evaluation wasn't the problem it was not ever developing a back up plan to the kids he swung & missed on.
