Meanwhile, in Blacksburg...

“I am told Sonny Dykes is expected to be a target if Virginia Tech pulls the plug on Justin Fuente, who is on one of the hottest seats in the country right now,” Feldman said on Big Noon Kickoff. “Fuente is 3-4. Also has frosty relationships with some of the key people inside Virginia Tech.”

Dykes, currently SMU’s head coach, has done a tremendous job with the Mustangs. His first full season at SMU was in 2018, where he went 5-7. In 2019, Dykes led SMU to a 10-3 season before losing in the Boca Raton Bowl. Last season, SMU was 7-3, and the Mustangs are a perfect 7-0 and ranked this season.

Dykes interestingly has a salary of just $1.34 million, which is the lowest among head coaches in the American Athletic Conference. He has previously been a head coach at Louisiana Tech and California.

Meanwhile what? He is in his 6th season as their head coach. He has had more lives than a cat. Amazing he has lasted this long.

That would not be good for us at all. Virginia Tech has been average since Beamer left and I want them to stay that way.

Right now, what's goin on with other teams takes a backseat to what we have going on. If we make the right moves, then what VT does won't be a major concern. However, given our track record, prepare for the worst possible outcome

Thinking outside the box, instead of just recycling a bunch of former Hokies & Frank Beamer disciples like Shane Beamer, Cornell Brown, Aaron Moorhead or Mike O’Cain... What a shock.

With that being said, Sonny Dykes would be insane to leave SMU for Va Tech, if he leaves SMU it should be for a Big XII school, VA Tech is a dead program because Bama, UGA, OH St & PSU have ransacked all the local Virginia talent.

I don’t know that much about Sonny Dykes other than the biography of schools/wins mentioned in this thread, but anything is better than Manny.

One thing I do know, is that I really like the fast tempo offense.

Is he the best candidate out there that’s available to us? That’s the only question we have to ask. Manny will not be the coach next year, so will have to choose the best of the available coaches. If he’s it, I’ll take it.

Dykes was a disaster at the last P5 program he was at. Pass

That’s all I ask. No coaches who’ve been fired as HC and no first time HCs
