"Me Guys"

What kind of guy making $2.5M/year would disappear right smack dab in the middle of recruiting doing irreparable harm to the class and leaving his employer openly wondering where he was so that he can beg for a different job that he wants more? Would that be a "me guy"?

The staff would never say it, but Eric Flowers would have been at the top of the list, followed closely by Duke Johnson.

This is the new excuse for '15. We're a "team" this year so the fans should buy in. I'm not buying in. Good coaches win with good talent. Bad coaches lose with good talent. Period.

And yet they still performed at the best of their abilities. I'm sick of this staff making excuses for their own problems. Duke and Eric didn't play defense against Nebraska, GT, or the 2nd half against F$U. They still seemed to be putting in work at the end of the season when the defense completely **** the bed.

It's a team effort....

But since you love throwing our defense under the bus, how about Duke's fumbles?

I love how he would fumble, then walk with his head down ont he sideline ten just mope there.

Some leader he is.

Our great teams of the past certainly didn't have any so called "me guys"......
Guys like Irvin, Hill, Brown, Sapp, Thomas etc.. we're all "put ya head down" , "yes maam no maam" "coal shovelers" that's y they were so successful!!! Man...AL Golden just gets it. Hopefully he will continue to model this current squad after the great Penn Sta...My bad i mean Hurricane teams of the past!!

Being vocal, brash, etc. has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not someone is a "me" player. Those players you cited were all about the team, they worked their asses off at all times, they lived and breathed being a Hurricane, not being an individual star. They were all the type that would play every last down of every game because that's what they were there for, even the blowouts and cake-walks if they could as opposed to playing slow and careful because they wanted to make sure they were fresh and ready for the NFL draft.

WTF?!?!

That was stated by more than one of the current players about how after the FSU game a certain subset of the team gave up on the season and played careful and half-assed to avoid possibility of injury, and that is part of what created a big division in the locker room. So take it up with the current players if you've got a problem with it. Doesn't change the fact that the coaches haven't done a great job, but the idea that there were no "me" players that created problems doesn't match what the players themselves have stated.

I really applaud DK. I knew he had the mental capacity of an infantile ****** following his work last offseason, but he's really elevated his game here.

You have to be next level dumb to lap up Golden's excuse that having 7-9 upperclassmen on your team that go on to make NFL rosters was a bad thing due to their "attitudes."

I'm impressed.

I don't think we're going to any games this year. As I read these things and reflect on our personal experience with Golden, I can't say I want to come down this season.

I'm disgusted by this. Duke a "Me" guy? Chick? Phillip? I watched these "Me" guys all but adopt Carter last season. Duke and his mother are the ONLY ones that kept up with Carter post make a wish. Not Golden, not Blake, not Donna, NOBODY but the "Me" guy and the his "loud mouthed" mom. Harry from AllCanes checked in but I don't count him as part of UM per se.

Then TheDude tried to slander me to turn me into what he was told, into a "Me" guy because of my comments post FSU.

I've never been so ticked about UM as I am right now. Have a ton of love for guys like Tracy, and Chad, who still reside on the team, and want to support them in person, but I'm beside myself right now.

Pathetic.

A few things that are really funny about this situation:

1. "Oh, these guys gave up after FSU." They were 6-4, the season was already an unmitigated disaster even before the claim that the "me" guys torpedoed some majestic championship run.

2. If you even want to entertain this horseshlt notion for one second that they did in fact coast after FSU - which is more hilarious fake insider talk by DK, simply spewing back what Golden has hinted at - all that needs to tell you is that Al Golden's team quit on him, and he failed at a major responsibility as a head coach: motivating his players.

Has absolutely nothing to do with what Golden said, it's based on what players have said.

Golden is the fakest mother fvcker in college football.

His time at Miami is the last chance he'll ever have to cash big paychecks and he's showing what a scumbag he is, throwing kids under the bus and trashing their character to excuse his failures.

Yeah, but none of them had to play for Al Golden. Coaches matter a ton in college. Most of our great would have been run off by Al. Bennie Blades might defend Al from a distance but you really think him and his brother would have not been suspended after each of their famous sibling fights? Those old players would have made Al pee his pants, so they would have had to go, period. Al will not even offend his friend for the sake of the team; why should any player risk his career for that sob?

I know SMD reads these boards. Mrs. Susan, please ask Golden how Carter is doing, and when was the last he spoke with Carter or his family. I know the answer obviously, but what would be exposed, is who the real "Me" guy is.

The way he treated you is the way he treats the players. That's why they always quit on him. They don't trust him, they see right through him, and they don't put it on the line for him.

So because Golden opened up the team to Carter and your family at some point and brought them to practices or whatever else, he is a bad guy because he doesn't continue to do so and doesn't continue to communicate with your family? Many programs and coaches wouldn't have done any of that in the first place, so they already went above and beyond what most programs do. There are hundreds of terribly sick children out there, should all of the families that the UM coaches don't keep tabs on be upset with them as well, or be upset because they chose to spend time with your family and not theirs? That Duke has formed a special relationship with Carter and has maintained that is wonderful, and a great reflection on Duke. That the coaching staff didn't maintain the relationship isn't a negative reflection on them.

Such suspensions are happening around the nation. The times, and the game, have changed. What was allowed back then is very different than what is allowed now.

You're missing the point here. I've been searching for the quote, but he was slated as saying that he would keep in contact, and I was asked pre Cincinnati in the interview about him saying that. He's never done it at all. They were upset at me saying we were family, and what I did wasn't what family does to each other.

What family doesn't check in on sick family?

Shouldn't family keep promises?

Isn't him calling out last year's players airing family business too?

Open your eyes man. Those are only a few questions. He shouldn't be doing things like this.

If it's really family, you keep these things in house.

From one of CIS' own writers, a UM student that knows a lot of the team:

couple of starters told me Duke was the best "team" guy on the canes. Went on to say that he did everything he was asked but he just hated when the coaches gave him 25+ carries because overriding him is how he broke his ankle.

But I believe mega insider DK

Keeping the lines of contact open doesn't necessarily mean he is going to be the one doing the contacting. Did you contact them after that? Not saying he did or didn't, but it sounds like you are trying to hold them to the standard that Duke set, which is going way above and beyond the call of duty.

Also, at no point did he mention Duke being one of the "me" guys on the team, nor did the various other current players who have made similar statements about players giving up. So I have no idea whether Duke is even one of those they were talking about.

As for "calling out last year's players....that is done by many coaches. I've seen direct quotes from Meyer, Saban, many others pointing out that there were elements in the team that were a problem to team chemistry, and stating that the team in a particular season is much better off chemistry-wise than the year before after some players moved on (Saban even used the "energy vampires" term to refer to some of those players). At no point were specific players named nor did they say that it was every player that left, but that there was a very real locker room problem and team chemistry problem with a subset of players is something that has been stated many times by players as well as the coaching staff.
