Keeping:
Rumph - Supposedly bad recruiter (which is debatable) has done his primary job. You do realize that the NCAA doesn't simply assign you wins based on what a kid has done in HS, right? They actually have to perform when they get to college and we just had excellent CB play and the nations best pass D. Knowing that wins = elite recruits at the U, firing Rumph would have been a huge mistake! Good move by Manny here.
Simpson - Didn't think it was possible, but it turns out that he is actually training our DL at least as well, and I would say better, than Kul. We're better against the run and although Willis came to the table with ability, you can't tell me that Simp didn't help him. Although, we will miss GW, with Simpson coming back, I feel confident that he will have our DT's playing well enough for us to field another stud unit.
Banda - Good recruiter and knows the D and can be MD's surrogate.
Pattke - I'm not so sure about, but if Manny wants him, it's hard to argue against the success of the D, so whatever, he brings consistency, I guess
Firing:
Gus - The guy looks like a type 2 diabetes candidate. I'll never forget seeing him on screen and asking, who's the fat guy? Some GA for the DL or something? Nope, he's the coach in charge of getting the guys in shape....wha...? I expect two huge things next year as a result of this firing: 1. DJ will slim down and have a HUGE year! 2. We are going to have far fewer injuries. You won't see an entire unit taken out and put on the DR like our TE's this year. Injuries are one of those things that appear flukey and sometimes they are, but isn't funny how the more in shape teams just coincidentally have fewer injuries as a group? A miracle coincidence, right?
Hartley - Supposedly great recruiter, but when you're not winning, that gets muted. More importantly, the ST's were horrific for the majority of the year. Worst kickoff coverage and even worse blocking on punts. Bye Felicia.
Searles - Right..
We can move on to the next fire, because he was the worst OL coach in our history.
Thomas - What exactly did he do for us again?
Donk - If this were last year, I'd think Manny was crazy, but Dugans is like the anti-Rumph. Great recruiter, but I have NEVER seen Canes WR's as a unit drop THIS many passes. Even during that one season with Coker where they were dropping Brock's passes like he was tossing out molten lava instead of pigskins. This season was the worst. A WR coach should have a few responsibilities, but their primary responsibility is for their young men to CATCH THE BALL!!! His guys didn't do that as a unit. Bye, now.
