McShay talks Miami Defense

Simpson got I think 5 reps last week. This bye week is perfect timing to continue to get him more & more comfortable. The truth about the portal/NIL era is teams have alot less depth then they ever did. Nobody is 3 deep at a position anymore. Young guys have to be ready bc its not the days of having a Junior physically ready guy behind the starter.

100%. And I know this isn't a great example, because this program is broke and a corpse, but fsu literally didn't have a tackle to put into the game after Pettus got hurt on Saturday. Their backup tackle is a guard, and their backup center is a guard. This isn't exclusive to just fsu, by the way. There are very few programs who just have waves and waves of blue-chips with experience now because of how the game works.

I believe Simpson got the reps while Moten was out with the shoulder. But I echo everyone's thoughts here and a lot of us have been saying it for weeks, if we're as good as we think we are, we're going to play 15-ish football games. We are a third of the way through the year. We have to start finding ways for kids to eat snaps, mostly on the DL. It'd be *REALLY* nice to be up 21-0 on Stanford in the first quarter and tell Bain and Mesidor to take their pads off.

But I do like how it sets up going forward where we'll have games that will likely be competitive but also games sprinkled in where we should be up big and will be able to build some depth, or at a minimum, just give our 1st DL a break.

Not ideal. Hopefully that's just rhetoric. Was that from the presser yesterday? I just caught Dawson's part, haven't caught up on Coach and Hetherman yet.
According to Jason Taylor he never came out of the game so it's not a problem. That's what he said. You guys can worry yourself about it, but it's quite clear they will rotate more, they did vs USF.

Well, not for nothing but we've arguably had the strongest SOS in the country up until now. Let's see how it works out with the easier part of our schedule.
I have been saying for awhile that the style of play is great for big games but it also allows for unsuspected teams to clip you.. Has happened every year for mario, UO fans expect it and still chirp about it. Go into Ohio st as underdog and missing star player and still win but turnaround and lose to Stanford a few weeks later. Nov swoons here..

Last year as good as we were with #1 offense we were in battles every week and could never develop any younger guys, every week talk about tight rotations.. Lets see if we change narrative, this season.

Talk to any OSU fan (ok don’t but still) and they’re worried about their DT depth just like everyone else

It’s dangerous to sit in this vacuum of Miami only stuff
Nobody is loaded ar DT anymore. It’s now the most prestigious position out there not named qb. There’s only so many dancing bears in this world . One area I agree with mcshay is Blay. He does disappear a lot and I forget about him. I was just telling a friend of mine that Moten is low key the most consistent interior guy

Yea from yesterday zoom presser, I hope it was just coach speak, we need depth.. Season is too long to expect guys to play that much time..
We only have two de’s that can play the run and pass . Thats beyond scary. The rest of the guys are more stand up pass rush types .

Vs Stanford
Vs Syracuse
@ VT

Those are the games where we most likely blow them out and get a lot of reps accross the board.

I think Louisville/Nc state/Pitt & SMU (to a lesser extent) will be closer games. (Not necessarily close… just closer)

I expect more rotating in the back half of the season but that might also mean we see some more misfires due to lack of reps. These last 7 games are perfect to prepare our guys for the ACC championship/Playoffs, veterans take care of the first half of the season and get a reduced work load in the back half while the young guys eat/develop

I still think the collapse from last year is on everyone’s mind. It’s hard to envision this team letting up whatsoever.

Stanford and Syracuse are probably the two most important games we play related to depth. If we get stuck in grind out games against them it's a problem. If we can jump out to early leads it will make all the difference in the world. It would be nice to have pulled an SEC schedule this year and had FAMU in week 10.

Yeah I’ve pushed back against “fix it in the portal!” people when our recruiting at DT has fallen flat

Literally everyone is hunting DTs in the portal and if elites are available it’s doubtful we get them

Defensive tackle, I’m telling you some of you guys on here are amazing. Freaking amazing! We have arguably the three best defensive tackles in all of college football and they are playing like it on the field and yet you guys still say you’re concerned with it. I’ll never get it with some of you.
As an offense what would you attack on this defense? I would go through the middle pause......like he said without homer glasses they are average/good. He is talking about big time teams that win late playoffs with DT play, that is a spot that depth wise with our eyeballs looks thin so far. Or do we have to say everyone on the team is elite because we are winning? Like he said Blay is just a guy I agree with that, I had no problem with him saying that. He will be drafted as that, unless you taking him in the first round? Since he is one of "the best" in the country. Im just saying

FACTS thank you, just saw this post. I had zero problem with what he said and you are 100% right. These dudes watch different games and their homer levels are superior to mine.

FSU ran 36 plays in the 4th quarter (38 with the 2 2pt conversions). It was crazy. They could have run 40-45 had we not given them 35 yards in penalties, and had Norvell taken some shots at the end zone on their final drive. I'd blindly wager that Taylor never played anything close to that many snaps in 1 quarter. It worked though. We are 5-0 and no one in our offensive and defensive "rotations" suffered any significant injuries. Please play more guys going forward though Coach.

Couldn’t have said it better.

Don’t know if we beat OSU on a neutral field but there’s no question we have the best resume in college football and deserve the #1 ranking.

Thats the problem with the style of play we have been having.. we dont really do that, plus shutting down operations on both sides of ball in entire 4th qtr doesnt lend to that either.. cant run 4 minute offense with 15 minutes left, lol.. its literally called 4 MINUTE OFFENSE lol.. then prevent D.. Ateast one side has to keep playing
Yeah but we have been playing less snaps because of the style of play. You see what happen when FSU converted all those 3rd and 4th downs in the 4th. They ran 37 plays and we got tired. There is not a defense who wouldnt get tired after that. Not Ohio or anyone else.

And for me, that was on the offense. Not about being conservative, its about being predictable which is what i hate. Doing exactly what the defense expects when they are desperate..
