McShay 2023 Mock (TVD #9 to SEA, Zion #26 to LAC)

I think it’s too bad that a lot of Hurricane fanatics know Zions story and how he ended up at Miami. They struggle giving him credit for being one of the best LT’s in the country.

Miami had the #1 pass blocking unit in the ACC. He’s a huge part of that! No LT is going to win ALL of his one on one battles. It’s not realistic for even the considered best LT in the draft.

He kept mofos off of TVD coming off that edge allowing him to deliver darts and drop dimes those last 6 games. Check those 6 games to see how many sacks and pressures he allowed and then compare that with who’s considered the #1 LT in his draft class.

We all know who his new coaches are on that side of the ball. This is a money year for him. He’s protecting the blind side of one of the best QB’s in the country. Run blocking and functional strength was his weakness. I don’t think that’s going to be an issue for him next season. This is all based on him staying healthy of course. IMO
I think this year is perfect for him

Imagine being a kid with his type of talent and potential and playing under the previous staff for a few years

Now you decide to come back to get ready for the pros and Mario and Mirabal walk through the door?

Zion was pretty solid pass blocking most of last season, and the OL generally looked much improved pass blocking once Clark took over at center. I remember going into the Forfeit State game Keir Thomas was getting hyped up and Zion basically stole his lunch money. At the end of the day, Zion's biggest issue is his run blocking (questionable strength at the POA, though he's athletic enough to get to the second level when he's asked to), but the NFL is a pass-happy league. If he continues to improve and keeps TVD upright, and shows even marginal improvement run blocking under the new staff, I could definitely see an NFL team picking Zion somewhere in that late 1st/early 2nd range.
I blocked the game out of my brain but I feel like the people that had the stomach to analyze the Bama game said that Zion handled Will Anderson pretty well

Not sure if I’m remembering that right

I love hearing about Zion, our Canes family unit trashed and made fun of him to no end.

I’m sure he read all the NEG our Canes family shared, and all he did was work and trained never stopped and now a projected 1st rounder.

He’ll go to the NFL and know there wasn’t much love here for him and to just move forward and he’ll probably only mention coaching staff but ZERO about out Canes love we never showed him.

The most ridiculous part of mock drafts, for my money, is knowing which NFL team will draft at which spot. Talk about a reach In a league where outcome is so tied to injuries.
We know 3-5 teams suck, and 3-5 teams have superior rosters. Outside of that the NFL is an injury-based crapshoot.

I do not understand the fascination with Richardson in some of these early mocks. The guy has done next to nothing in his college career. Not saying he can't be good, but ****, show it on the field first. TVD broke ACC records and was rolling after his first two starts.

It was the same fascination with Emory Jones who everyone was slobbering over last off season

I took a minute to analyze Saban's potential draftees and how he's 'developed" these fine young men into first rounders:

Young, .9994/5* (#1 at his position)
Andersen, .9913/5* (#1 at his position)
Ricks, .9928/ 5* Transfer. Has not yet played a down for Alabama
To'o To'o, .9779/4* Transfer
Gibbs, .9652/4*. Transfer. Has not yet played a down for Alabama
Ekiyor, .9494/4* (#3 at his position)

Congratulations Nick.
You developed the third best Center in the country into a first round draft pick.

just speculating, but they are enamored with the fact that he's an athlete playing qb...he has that "it" factor...but yeah, I'll take a qb who can pass for 300/3tds all day every day instead.
Wasn’t that question about what teams look for answered with the Pickett/Willis situation this year?

It's funny they point out TVD didnt always look like a first round pick (insinuating he is inconsistent).

When he broke the record for most consecutive 300 yards and 3td games. The very definition of consistency lol
only complaint I had with him was the slow starts. He's the real deal...I'd take him over all the qb's in this last draft.

will be interesting to see how this list ages.

1. Houston Texans

C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State*

2. Detroit Lions

Bryce Young, QB, Alabama*

3. New York Jets

Will Anderson Jr., DE, Alabama*

4. Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State*

5. Atlanta Falcons

Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia*

6. Carolina Panthers

Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida*

7. Chicago Bears

Jordan Addison, WR, Pittsburgh*

8. New York Giants

Will Levis, QB, Kentucky

9. Seattle Seahawks

Tyler Van Dyke, QB, Miami*

Van Dyke didn't consistently play like a first-rounder in nine starts last season,
but the 6-foot-4, 224-pounder has the talent of a future franchise passer. The third-year sophomore just needs to take the next step this year. Seattle GM John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll seem to still legitimately like Drew Lock's potential as an NFL starter, but if the Seahawks have another disappointing season and another top-10 pick, they could be in the market for an upgrade.

So wait he's saying Van Dyke didn't play like a first rounder yet he has Richardson going above him in the first round. OMG what the **** is he smoking.

I do not think that Top 4 is going to move much this year. Stroud, Young, Anderson, and JSN seem lock-ish at the top. Lets see how the year plays out.

I have some hope that TVD can be a legit Top 10 NFL Draft pick for sure. Could have that Burrow, Tua, Herbert type class. TVD can be Herbert to Stroud/Young's Burrow/Tua.
