McElroy on rebuilding/modern era football

He has a point on NIL.

Kids (a few anyway) getting six figures-plus before even playing is ridiculous. Too late now though. The major programs and Conferences were too busy competing with one another and the NCAA too obsolete to have a vision for the future. Now it’s a Wild West with different states having different laws.

And before any comparisons to getting paid in the league, the NFL teams pay the player, with a rookie scale and team salary cap (and minimum). With a Player’s Association representing and negotiating a CBA for the players. Different model than NIL.
NCAA caused this mess with their selective enforcement of their rules. Players have been getting paid under the table for years, but only certain schools were allowed to do it with no repercussions. Therefore these few schools were able to monopolize all of the top talent. Something had to be done.

Kids have always been getting 5 and 6 figures before playing a snap in college.

Ppl just hating it now becuase it’s public knowledge and anyone can do it.
It's more because it's available legally to every college, and the 5-6 figure have gone to 6-7 figures. And in due course, eight figures.

McElroy talking about the issues he sees with the Bama program. Good take if you've got the 12 mins to listen. If not skip to 7:00. Applies directly to Miami and the current situation.

Yea; the WR core, as I eluded to in another thread, has not been up to their standards. Burton is a good WR, but he’s not a WR1. Bama have been enjoying WR1 x 3 on the field at the same time for the past several seasons.

But I get it; this is a spoiled fan base, both from their old heads & newer generation fan base. They can’t handle “this disappointment.”

****, when we had our run, we, too, scoffed at losing more than 1 game in a season. I know I was irritated af in 2003. Still remember being at Claims Jumpers in Long Beach w/ a Nebraska, FSU, Michigan, & a slew of SC fans who were clowning as we narrowly escaped WVU. The season just felt off compared to 2000 - 2002, & it was. Little did I know, 2003 would be the last of our best years.
2003 defense was still elite, but the team lost too many important players on offense.

Brock Berlin was a steep drop off from Dorsey, but he should be been in the shotgun 100%. No one replaced Dre Johnson, and Gore was eventually injured (against WVU?) a second time. OL was not bad, but not as good.

LMFAO! Success really spoils you. This is the first time Bama has lost 2 games in a season since 2010 and all of a sudden they have deep issues. Both of their losses this year have been by a combined 4 points. Bill O'Brien never impressed me as a playcaller but you gotta laugh at the arrogance of fans who expect perfection year in and year out. I am sure their message boards are filled with lunatics saying sh*t like the game has passed Saban by and he needs to be fired or retired. Majority of the programs (including UGA) would give up their first born to have the kind of long term success Bama has sustained, and this is with constant coaching turnover. College football fans are lunatics.

Alabama doesn't look the same as they have in years passed. This is bigger than two losses, it's some rather unimpressive wins against weaker teams and looking nothing like the reloading program they have been for over a decade.

There's a changing of the guard in the sport. Georgia was "close but no cigar" for years under Richt—and it seems the balance of power has shifted with a new sheriff in town.

Oh it is. Lol. These fools just won the title in 2020, played for another title game last season. Lol

But hey, that’s standard. I can’t knock it.

From what I understand, these folks aren’t, too, happy about the overall season. Many felt UT was the better team when Bama narrowly escaped, & felt that had Ewers stayed healthy, that would’ve been a L. They were also upset w/ how they needed a last second TD to beat A&M after A&M shocked them last yr, & they’ve had a big issue w/ that DB room, particularly Ricks from LSU. All in all, they feel they are lucky to have only 2 losses. I’ve checked in on some of their game chats in close games & yeah, they’re upset at this season.

I’ve watched several Bama games & they look very 2003 Canes-ish, & I guess their point is nipping this chit in the bud immediately.
Ricks had issues at LSU as well.. He might be a head case

Isn't he a so. call dude Rell?

Bro; I was watching a CFB 150 yrs episode that I guess I skipped. They talked about recruiting; bro, these mofos have been cheating since the inception of this game. At Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Rutgers etc., these mofos had legit ringers. Lol. Like pulling dudes off the streets who could ball, giving them fake classes to play football. Lol.

Bro, I was cracking up.

I think it’s hilarious you think these kids are BARLEY starting to get six figures to play at schools like bama…

Still remember the "Brock's a Crock" chants.

Truth is the 5 stars and too 100 kids are actually starting to be spread out between different teams again like us and USC. That pulls from the Bama base when you still have the blue bloods chasing after the same kids.
This is what I’ve been saying. This is a good problem for college football. Spread out the recruits to different teams and this is where the upsets start happening again. It’ll be fun in the coming years to finally watch a #1 team lose to an unranked team or top 25 teams any given week.

😂 but now it’s hurting the game…
