McElroy on rebuilding/modern era football

Yea; the WR core, as I eluded to in another thread, has not been up to their standards. Burton is a good WR, but he’s not a WR1. Bama have been enjoying WR1 x 3 on the field at the same time for the past several seasons.

But I get it; this is a spoiled fan base, both from their old heads & newer generation fan base. They can’t handle “this appointment.”

****, when we had our run, we, too, scoffed at losing more than 1 game in a season. I know I was irritated af in 2003. Still remember being at Claims Jumpers in Long Beach w/ a Nebraska, FSU, Michigan, & a slew of SC fans who were clowning as we narrowly escaped WVU. The season just felt off compared to 2000 - 2002, & it was. Little did I know, 2003 would be the last of our best years.
I didn’t start even watching canes till 2010. The only success I’ve ever known is first 7 games of 2013 and the 2017 season.

Did Bama finally get the wrong 5 star? **** Nah

The coordinators are mid as ****. The DC gets out schemed at least 3 times a year. Bill O’Brien is one of the most overrated coaches from the Patriots coaching tree.

McElroy talking about the issues he sees with the Bama program. Good take if you've got the 12 mins to listen. If not skip to 7:00. Applies directly to Miami and the current situation.

He's highlighting over and over the way to beat Bama:

Don't let them get the players in the first place.

LMFAO! Success really spoils you. This is the first time Bama has lost 2 games in a season since 2010 and all of a sudden they have deep issues. Both of their losses this year have been by a combined 4 points. Bill O'Brien never impressed me as a playcaller but you gotta laugh at the arrogance of fans who expect perfection year in and year out. I am sure their message boards are filled with lunatics saying sh*t like the game has passed Saban by and he needs to be fired or retired. Majority of the programs (including UGA) would give up their first born to have the kind of long term success Bama has sustained, and this is with constant coaching turnover. College football fans are lunatics.
None of what you say negates his spot on analysis of culture and performance as it affects Miami.

They're 2 plays from being 9-0, but they're also 2 plays from being 5-4. Real talk. Bama is not nearly as dominant this year as they have been.

Perhaps we should consider this:

Bama hasn't fallen off near as much as other programs have caught up with coaching, recruiting, development, and retaining the right athletes on their teams.

Possibly, but I didn’t like their WR room, either. Being dead serious. Even the RB room, w/ Gibbs as the headliner, pales in comparison to what they’ve had. That OL is still a beast, but they had chinks in their armor, namely WR & CB specifically. It also appears that dominant DT they’ve been accustomed to is not as dominant.

I agree. I also agree with @Rellyrell 's point of them having a "down" year staff and players.

They have had their "system" for so long that there are other teams that can emulate and implement what Bama has as far as staff, facilities, nutrition, recovery, sports science, etc.

And then, in my opinion, the most significant advantage they had was their built-in advantage of being the school that could get away with the most. Now that NIL has diluted that advantage, you are starting to see more parity. I am not saying they are doomed. As long as Saban is there, they will compete for championships. It's just now their secret sauce ain't so secret anymore and they can't launder money to recruits anymore that NIL is above board. The result is what we are seeing today.

I think when we heard Saban **** near begging for money from boosters, he may have shown vulnerability. Every coach knows their roster, & I’m sure after he seen certain positions not as solid like yrs past, he needed to make a plea. They hit the portal far greater in the past two yrs than ever before.

Exactly. It's not like they are losing 45-3 to Auburn. Even really good teams can lose two close games to other good teams. If they were 4-5 and not able to score a TD, they'd have issues.

Unfortunately this was me in the eighties and early ninties....would go into week long depression after a loss

Was ready for outright intifada against Erickson after the OB winning streak ended against Washington
