What happened to McCloud? Future looked bright as a true frosh, and then...
He just topped out mentality and we assumed his physical skills would keep resulting in improvement. It didn’t.
also, historical perspective is important. The year before Shaq, Pink and McCloud came as freshmen, UM’s backers were the worst we had seen in 30 years, and much worse than this year. As a result, the 3 freshmen were a dramatic improvement, and they were grouped together. During their sophomore seasons it became obvious that McCloud was not progressing as quickly as his partners, and we started seeing the gap.
‘please understand that processing speed and intelligence are not the same at all, so McCloud may well be very intelligent but he plays a position that requires him to diagnose and decide in a split second and he just can’t do it. He looks a half second slow but it isn’t because he’s slow of foot, but rather slow of decision.

I remember people talking about mcloud being one of the most important kids that cmr was able to retain after Golden got fired. Said his ceiling was way higher than any linebacker in the class.

He looked the part. Kid was a freak but not much you can do about being out of position every play.

Anyone with a brain should have known this guy wasn't any good. I mean who gets way better their 5th year if they weren't injured their whole career?

a lot of fans forget or don't consider that recruiting talent is only a small first step ... the important thing
is PLAYER DEVELOPMENT ! championships don't happen without that.

how many very talented kids coming out of high school have been on Miami's roster in the last 20 years
and never really developed into a high caliber college football player ? think about it.
