Maybe this is why our run game is so basic (Hal Mumme)

At some point, coaches have to recognize what's working and not working, and make the changes. No matter what system, its their job to run plays that produce results... combine that with poor blocking .. we have what we saw on Friday.
Yep, and Good coaches can adjust in-game. Figure out quickly what isn’t working against the team in front of their faces. Some are too stubborn to change even throughout the season or their career

Reasons we lost to Louisville:

1. Beck

2. Other stuff

When teams sell out to stop the run game you just need a semi competent QB to hit easy throws and make them pay

Don’t torture yourselves like I did and rewatch it. Some of the worst QB play I’ve seen even at Miami

Agree, 4 picks were the reason. Defense settled in after the first two drives. Beck bang be careless with the ball.

Football simpleton here, is it possible that Dawson/Mirabal is a one trick pony when comes to the running game that, they don’t adjust because they don’t coach the run game any other way? Shoot me if I’m way off…🤣

The issue with the run game & the Offense in general, is not the play calling, its the personnel.

The Offense is mid because the QB is mid. Teams don't respect our passing attack so they're loading the box with 7-man fronts & taking away the run.

The reason why they can take away the run this year, but couldn't last year is because the QB & RB have changed.

They couldn't load the box last year because if they did Cam would absolutely destroy them. Which would force Defenses to back off & drop 7 in coverage, making running lanes easier to open up.

It's the opposite this year.

The run game is designed and coordinated by Mirabal.

Dawson integrates the design into his offense.
It's one of the worst designs i've ever seen, zero creativity or stress for a defense to figure out. If that's what Mirabal brings to the table, then i'm sorry, he shouldn't be run game coordinator. He should stick to blocking principles only.

Totally makes sense, but are our coaches so inept, that they can’t devise any other schemes? Every season it’s the same question: how do teams with lesser talent outdo ours?

Saw it was on the ACC channel this morning and started to turn it on but killed the urge by not wanting to ruin my day while waiting for the pleasures of our 31-10 win tonight…

One of the biggest issues with our running game this year is our TEs haven’t been able to block well. That isn’t the only issue obviously, but it’s one of the biggest changes year over year. That and, as noted above, teams not fearing our passing game. Beck has got to show he can beat teams without turning it over.
