Maybe this is why our run game is so basic (Hal Mumme)

Agree, 4 picks were the reason. Defense settled in after the first two drives. Beck bang be careless with the ball.
That game was a fluke. Even playing our worst possible game, we barely lost. Louisville doesn’t impress me at all. Talent wise Miami is far superior. Brohm is a good scheme coach. But we we win 9 out of 10 times. Beck had his career worst game.

At some point, coaches have to recognize what's working and not working, and make the changes. No matter what system, its their job to run plays that produce results... combine that with poor blocking .. we have what we saw on Friday.
after watching Mirabells run gamer for the last 2 years , maybe just maybe the OL does not have the athleticism to pull or pin and pull or trap or get ahead of RB for toss sweeps ? Frankie yes but Bell ? Anez Cooper ? but all I ever see is the dreaded dou dive play.......

When teams sell out to stop the run game you just need a semi competent QB to hit easy throws and make them pay

Don’t torture yourselves like I did and rewatch it. Some of the worst QB play I’ve seen even at Miami
I get all that! But we ran no short routes like comebacks, crossers or slants where they were the first or second option to make their corners come up! That’s on the coaches! Period! You as the coach tell beck to hit the short routes or you’re pulling him! We were coming out with 3 straight up the gut runs anyway lol. No accountability and discipline on this team!

I’m going back and forth with people on another thread cause they keep blaming Dawson and Mario’s “philosophy” while I blame the fact that we can’t throw the ball and teams have figured it out. It’s so easy to easy that he cant handle any pressure and we run the same few running plays and screens.

The scheme is to protect him.

The issue with the run game & the Offense in general, is not the play calling, its the personnel.

The Offense is mid because the QB is mid. Teams don't respect our passing attack so they're loading the box with 7-man fronts & taking away the run.

The reason why they can take away the run this year, but couldn't last year is because the QB & RB have changed.

They couldn't load the box last year because if they did Cam would absolutely destroy them. Which would force Defenses to back off & drop 7 in coverage, making running lanes easier to open up.

It's the opposite this year.

If your players execute it doesn't matter how basic the call is. End of discussion. Now, if you call a run play and they put 8/9 in the box and you don't check out then I don't know what to say. Bottom line, do your job and execute.

Thank you!!
Been telling people on here for 2 weeks that the scheme is designed to protect him and the staff has known it.
Kool aid oragne and green glasses. Beck is not him and we can’t push the ball. It’s 6 weeks in and nothing g changed despite 3 close calls in the 4th. It’s not an accident. It’s on purpose for a reason. And the reason isn’t a philosophy or bro fyzycal. The philosophy is “holy sht we got the wrong guy let’s burn clock and keep them off the field cause we can’t go down big”.
We couldn’t even come back on louisvilles D.
It is what it is. Off season might start in December.

Beck was bad but the runs straight into the OL **** has got to stop.

The all 22 is for this game is gross incompetency from Beck. He had players open all over the field on any give pass play that was 5 yards beyond the LOS and decided to play Jacory home run or GTFO football.

To the same player!!
Where’d you get all-22?

I know I sound like a Debbie Downer when I say this, but I don’t believe we are winning anything significant with Beck at QB. Louisville is a slightly above average defense but they had Beck seeing ghosts. I don’t think it was a one-off aberration , Beck did similar things at UGA. DCs have figured out UMs very obvious tendencies and know how undisciplined the OL is.

To be fair - I poke fun at Mario for taking Beck over Columbus grad Mendoza, but I do understand his thinking that the team was complete enough that we just needed an experienced QB who distributes the ball and avoids turnovers. Unfortunately we didn’t get the version of Beck we hoped we were getting. I hope this is a lesson for next season- we need to have a mobile QB. Beck can’t pick up 3-4 easy yards with his feet when he sees a lane so he has no choice but to force throws. And teams don’t have to account for him being a run threat so that means an extra LB in coverage. That said, Miller Moss can’t run either, but Brohm is one of the best in the cfb at scheming up plays to hide his QBs flaws. Dawson isn’t nearly at that level so he needs the player to make the plays since he can’t scheme around the limitations.

Run game variety: The running game in an Air Raid system is designed to keep defenses from keying solely on the pass. This is achieved by stressing the defense horizontally and vertically, with a variety of run plays, not just one specific type.
A-gap isn't a focal point: While A-gap runs would be part of the offense, focusing 80% of runs there would be counterproductive to the larger offensive strategy. It would make the run game predictable and allow defenses to stack the box, which is what the Air Raid seeks to avoid.

Brohm had our defense on wheels early, we adjusted but that guy can call a game. With that said that was a game we needed to throw 45 times and beck just wasn’t on.
