May 8 vs Appalachian State 7pm ACCNX

Have to imagine the 5th will be the final inning for Smith with 67 pitches to start

Solid outing for Smith. He was stretched out to 85 pitches, and certainly didn’t do anything to cost himself another start next Saturday.

Arguelles enters the game. Many other changes. Most notably, the outfield consists of Lala (board rejoice), Thomas, and Born.

Dubberly re-emerges for the first time since the UNC series to pitch the 7th

Don't want to read too much into it since its App St. but one has to wonder why Smith and AMac were not given these opportunities earlier in the season.
Hard to say what they were doing preseason without seeing fall practice like I would in a normal year, but it’s also hard to argue they did anything in the first six or so weeks of games we did get to see to deserve a start. Gino was to slow to give Smith in particular the opportunity once he picked things up in early April.

Dubberly started on the wild side and surrendered a run on a couple singles and wild pitches. 16-1 heading to the 8th.

Kayfus has been impressive in his late inning opportunities since Toral took the first base job back.
