Matt Rhule Contract - WOW

Didn't Rhule take over the Temple job when Golden left? Better opportunity for him. We hired the wrong Temple coach apparently!

Addazio was the coach after Golden. Rhule was the coach after Addazio.

According to wiki, Rhule stayed as Temple OC in 2011, then spent 2012 as Giants assistant OL coach before becoming Temple head coach in 2013. I was slightly incorrect in my last post-he actually stayed at Temple rather than taking the Miami OC job.

I wonder if that was his choice, or if Golden chose Fisch over him.

No I think it was Addazio or maybe was even before him

you're right. He was Golden's OC at Temple and i guess stayed on with Addazzio. So question op asks still remains valid. Why did he not follow Golden to Miami as an asst.?

Correct. Not sure what happened that he did not follow Golden but certainly the career path he took worked for him.

Weird to say, but Rhule came from Golden coaching tree. Also gave Ryan Day his first collegiate job as wr coach in '06. Both worked under Golden. How the tables have turned!

If anything, it tells you NFL franchises and organizations need to identify people who are incredible CEOs, pay them accordingly, so those people can hire and fire with tremendous precision. As the prices (for coaches and players) go up, what I find interesting is, instead of hitting reset and focusing resources at the very top, some organizations just continue to recycle bad decisions.

He was in the running. But being a HC requires a certain skill set and leadership capabilities. You either have them or you don’t.

Belichick said Judge was born to be a HC, and Judge was in charge of Patriots special teams the last 5 years which have been amazing.

Probably in the minority but I like the hire.

Patriots special teams have indeed been quietly amazing. When they played the Dolphins they were always prepared for Darren Rizzi's schemes far beyond any other team, plus they had wrinkles that would take advantage of Rizzi weaknesses that he didn't know he had. Rizzi would be going nuts on the sidelines. He wasn't accustomed to it.

I appreciate the age range. The NFL should be hiring head coaches in their 30s. Too much tired conventional wisdom for decades. You need brilliance at that job, not experience.

Well, Golden is unemployed. Let's see if OSU or Carolina needs a pillar analyst.

Somewhere in New Joisy a sweaty Alfredo Golden is in full delusion thinking "That should've been me!!!". You know he absolutely envisioned Rhule's career trajectory as his own all the way down to the flirtation with the Giants or maybe Eagles. We were supposed to be his Baylor stepping stone to massive riches in the NFL or at worst Pedo State (as they would've went after Rhule hard if they lost Franklin).

True. He should have considered the simple concepts of flexibility and adaptability. Old relic of a defensive system and forced players to fit into it rather than the reverse. Ironically, Rhule might be his philosophical inverse.

LOL dude getting 7 years at up to 10 mil per. His resume is Temple and Baylor, not even a major program. This is just getting to ridiculous levels and I'm really starting to believe (unless caps are put in place) we are not going to be able to compete; not even close. We just got to paying Richt 4 mil and top coaches are now getting more than double!
It’s a good thing we don’t have to compete with the nfl for HCs. Never have. Never will.

What this shows me is that the nfl has stepped up its money game. They’re probably tired of college coaches telling them no and sticking with their $4M gig. They just said, “Nope. We’re going to set you and your family up for life with guaranteed generational wealth. Say no now.”

Does anybody know why Rhule never followed Golden to become OC at Miami? I think Golden’s tenure, at least early on, would have been better with Rhule as OC. Rhule basically chose being the Giants asst OL coach over being Miami OC, which is really weird. Or did Golden seriously choose Fisch as his Miami OC over Rhule?

Golden probably would have shown his true suckitude after Rhule left. But maybe we would have brought Rhule back as head coach after Golden got fired.

And, even if he eventually got NFL overtures, (which he might not have since he wouldn’t have Giants assistant experience), I think Miami would have had a better chance at keeping him as head coach than Baylor would.
There’s no proof Folden offered him the OC gig. He was the one guy smart enough to know Folden was trash and didn’t follow him. That shows extraordinary judgment. No wonder he’s such a success.

I like seeing the Raiders play well. I was in Tampa and saw how Gruden over complicated things. The guy ruined Chris Sims and a couple of other young QB's with his "Innovative" 2000 page play book. I knew former Buc players that basically confirmed it. Lee Roy Selmon's near Dale Mabry was a hang out spot. Gruden over complicates things and for some makes him sound like a genius. Carr is a good QB, but learning Gruden's system is like learning Latin. People fell in love with his play by play on Monday night football. For every play he has 8 different versions.
I loved Lee Roy Selmon's restaurant. I'm low key mad they changed it to Glory Day's but it's growing on me here in Ft. Myers.

Panthers rolling out the cash! I saw on espn he called and gave the Giants a chance to match before accepting. Not a Giants fan but I hope they don’t just ruin Barkley’s prime. He’s great to watch.

Do NFL HC contracts have buyouts like the college level? I would assume so but asking cause this contract size seems ridiculous. Or once you're fired, they owe you nothing?

Then Mammy is clearly underpaid. He should be given an extension and salary equal to the best paid former Temple corch. Not to do so smacks of anti-Cuban racism and should be band, musically speaking.
