Matt porter source says regarding the rental car situation

We really don't know enough to say whether it would be some mild suspensions or something significantly worse. Just not enough info.

If these alleged "impermissible benefits" are substantial dollar-wise, and can be proven to have been provided by a booster or agent-type person, then that skews towards more severe punishment.

If the dollar amounts are not outrageous and the providers are not boosters/agents/etc, then it skews towards more leniency.

Methinks anyway.

It's all just guessing now, without all the facts.

I don't feel any kind of way about what the severity will be, especially not having all the information

The UNC case was an NCAA investigation and it hasn't gotten to that point here as far as we know. Six of those players were suspended for academic stuff not benefits as well

NCAA will have to be involved in an impermissible benefits case. UM will conduct its investigation, make its findings and present proposed penalties to the NCAA. UM will not under any circumstances mess around and punish the players on its own. If they ***** up and play guys that the NCAA thinks should be ineligible, then UM will have to forfeit any wins they have with those guys playing.

This isn't a case of a dude getting arrested for smacking a girl where there's no NCAA rule on it, and the school determines the penalty. This is an impermissible benefits case, and you lose eligibility when you're determined to have taken impermissible benefits. In order to re-instate that eligibility you need to get the NCAA involved. UM would be complete idiots to act on its own in determining the length of the suspension or restoration of eligibility.

Understood. My post was more in reference to how many players are actually involved. NCAA isn't doing the digging. Until we're told otherwise this is an UM investigation where they either already have or will present their findings and punishments to the NCAA. The NCAA can then say whether they find the punishments doled out by UM substantial enough to let it go.

UM "sources" have so far mentioned four players being involved and one of them is long gone. The three other players mentioned have all missed practice time to deal with this. I haven't heard of anyone else missing time. The NCAA opened up an impermissible benefits investigation at UNC and then opened an academic misconduct investigation after sniffing around for a couple months. If this becomes an NCAA investigation my thoughts will start to fall in line with yours.

They're NO LONGER IN BUSINESS? WHEN did they go out of business? How long ago did this happen?...Like I said before, someone should take the dufus salesman/owner for a SHORT ride across the Julia Tuttle.

I work two blocks away from that car rental service in South Beach that is no longer in business btw; the rates vary but a Lamborghini rental is about $200 for half an hour.

Their store has been closed for about 3 weeks or so (at least). It was located on 14th and Collins. Never had much business, they just would keep a Lambo an Audi and a Bentley parked on the street and some sketchy dudes would just walk up to you offering deals. Very unprofessional and did not seem like a serious car rental service despite these cars being extremely luxurious of course.

I'll be surprised if there's not a "surprise" 5th or 6th player involved that we haven't heard mentioned yet. That's just the way this stuff usually goes.

UM hasn't told anyone anything yet, so I don't put a ton of stock in "sources" on this type of thing. This just seems like one of those things that would suck a bunch of dudes into it. The ability to roll around town in a Lambo or Ferrari for free is tough for a young guy to pass up.

I don't see an NCAA investigation here just to be clear. I see the NCAA getting involved in the penalty phase for the players, or else UM is really dumb.

For the record, I do not think this business has any sort of secret agenda against UM or football players. I don't want my prior posts to get misinterpreted that way.

Worse case scenario, if the NCAA does get involved ,this could turn into an OJ type thing where OJ got 15+ years for a crime that normally got a slap on the wrist but they punished him for the prior crime where he got off scott free

I bet this is just a matter of the rental agency needing someone to take a few cars out to warm the oil - which is a maintenance norm.

Most maintenance folks get paid, and sometimes there's trade-outs. I'll take the car out and warm it up, and due to the normal rental fees being significant - we'll call it even.

I recall Don Aronow rotated his cars to stay at key employees homes so they could be driven at least once a week. I know. I rode in his Rolls to McDonalds.

That would have been the smart story if this never broke publicly.

So Richt has to suspend them for 3 1/2 years while NCAA investigates just in case?

This is no blessing in disguise. The players involved are irreplaceable at the moment and each was a leader in their respective positions. We also don't want the NCAA up our asses again. Hoping for the best and I am in no way comfortable that this is a situation that we will "skate thru". All the players are told what not to do as these actions could imperil their careers and UM which is on probation. Although the offense seems pretty trivial in nature this should had NEVER EVER had happened. Luckily Richt is in control and he is a proven CEO. Fingers crossed here boys.

Richt isn't suspending anyone. This ain't a "team rules" thing. He'll have nothing to do with this investigation or punishment.

Since the NCAA is not involved I don't see how any of this weak shxt is more than a 1 game suspension

Are you guys really this dim, or is this schtick? Do you dopes really think the NCAA will not be involved in the punishment/reinstatement of players who took impermissible benefits and violated their amateur status thereby becoming ineligible?

This fake tough guy cowboy **** is laughable.

Lol you all are paranoid / Miami is untouchable for the short term future / you think the NCAA is even considering getting involved with any investigation involving Miami after the embarrassment they had to eat during the Shapiro fiasco??.... Trust me like ur savior when I say they're not.
