C James Brockermeyer (#52) v. DT Kayden McDonald (#98)

Brockermeyer does many things well, but his weakness is power. McDonald is a 6'2, 326-pound first round pick. His strength is power.

Ohio State's other DTs (95, 96, 53) are a major step down from McDonald. Dawson and Mirabal need a plan to mitigate the damage here.

McDonald and Reese both have the potential to wreck a game. I'd take a page out of Louisville gameplan against us, cut him early and often. Cutting will slow him down as he will naturally want to save his legs.

Who is McDonald's best analogue that Brockermeyer faced this season?

How did he [Brockermeyer] perform then?

I know it was game 1, but Texas was able to run on them.
37 rushes for 166 yards. 4.5ypc.

Purdue has 22 rushes for 92 yards. 4.2ypc
Michigan had 24 rushes for 100 yards. 4.2ypc

Those are really the only teams all season that could claim some success running on them.

We'll need a similar stat line to keep their defense honest.

By the way. We only gave up more than 4ypc one time all year..that was to VT when they had 5.2ypc.

I was thinking this last night, Brockermeyer is our weak link in the O line, he doesn’t get that push always. And that OSU DT is a house. Probably need some G help. I hope Dawson and Mirabal have a scheme.

McDonald is a beast. I hope we dont leave Brockermeyer to deal with him 1 on 1.

I love our matchup at T. Curry and Jackson are stiff and tend to try to overpower OTs. Bell and Mauigoa practice against better DEs everyday in practice. I hope we run right at Jackson all game long. Nothing personal, I just think Curry is a bit more stout.

It may be tough to run in between the tackles as a result. I wonder what miami will do to help out Brockermeyer.

Indiana ran for 118 as well. The ypc was 3.5 but its a first down every 3 plays. And they won the game. They want to spill the play and have the LBs chase side line to side line. We need to see more of that pistol and play action as well.
