Off-Topic Mass killings

CRPC has always come under fire as producing misleading stats ever since they started producing this document (authored by a pro gun rights guy, I might add). The report has been criticized for its data collection methods. Just FYI.

This is the problem with studies of any controversial subject. They're never done by disinterested third parties and are almost always skewed.

This is probably the worst school shooting to pound the table for gun control. The police with their guns did nothing but hold off (reportedly) numerous individuals with guns from going into the building who were willing to risk their lives to save those children...again, while the police were cowards and did nothing. If the police just got out of the way, its possible some of those ol school don't mess with Texas *** hillbillies would have taken this lunatic out before he killed 20-something children.

We obviously need to do something about gun control in this country, but this exposed far more than simply that.

It exposed something that we’ve know about for a while… groups behave differently (in a more cowardly manner) than individuals. Shared responsibility leads to more inaction. This is why it is important to have a responsible person running an emergency response. Someone who will point to an individual and tell them their exact responsibility. Put them on the spot… and then put another person on the spot if needed… this is a failure of men, but more importantly a failure of leadership.

A much less critical example:
Option 1) I tell my two kids to mow the lawn and clean the pool over the weekend
Option 2) I specifically tell one kid to mow the lawn tomorrow morning and the other kid to clean the pool this evening
-same kids, same jobs, but option 2 has a lot higher chance of successful completion and a lot smaller chance of my wife yelling at them.

That's one of the things they teach in CPR certification. Don't just say for someone to call 911 because everyone thinks someone else will do it, specifically pick a person and tell them.

The main dig against Lott is that his tables don’t always match his numbers. I know his numbers were questioned years ago, but I never heard anyone prove that they were actually wrong. He’s just been caught misrepresenting them. This document is also ridiculed bc it goes by per capita and only shows 5 years at a time.

My point wants that the upper educational system is rigged towards one train of thought. It’s always been that way.

At least in my lifetime. There’s a certain fascist attitude in most colleges where only one line, one way of looking at things, is practically allowed.
You could easily say the same for 5th-12th. When those students get to college maybe that’s why they lean towards that train of thought..personally I never came across a professor pushing a certain type of thought on me..maybe others have. But if you have some extreme opinions on history I can see how a person would not feel compelled to share those in a classroom that would disagree.

I can’t think of a reasonable way to double blind this study to remove bias…

It's not going to be perfect but it at least can offer context and additional conversation points rather than point to one article and say "SEE??!?!?!"

I respect the fact that you have had a different experience, I just know my experience and that of most honest people I know, no matter where they line up on the political spectrum. Even the most liberal people I know will admit to me that this is true. The educational system as a whole leans way left, and even more so in the upper educational levels.

But “pushing” is not what I meant, I meant a systemic bias that funnels students toward a certain political spectrum.

The dude's only response to the historical horrors of communism was whataboutism - 'well America did bad stuff too!'. He 100% got the same experience we all did - he just didn't realize it.

One fetus aborted is a travesty bc life begins at conception. Therefore, abortion equals murder. Making fetus' the golden goose is the christian right's way of making Jesus all of our homeboys in America. It is here to stay unless Americans stand up to protect their first amendment rights.

A bunch of ten year olds are at school learning when a shooter arrives to kill them. Guns dont kill people. Buying guns as a laymen, not even a member of a well regulated militia, is all right by some bc guns dont kill people. When I see the army, navy, marines, and air force start buying erasers and paperclips to kill people, then Ill say guns dont kill. There is something that is true of a gun that isnt true of a baseball ball or a knife or a paperclip. They could all be used in their normal realms, bats on the field and knives in the kitchen! They could be used to kill.
When folks say gun control will not work it is simply a lie. If the Texas shooter had been prohibited from purchasing a gun at 18, that shooting environment would certainly look a lot less gruesome. Some have said there were red flags. Maybe. Much to your chagrin, I wouldnt be able to say whether the 18 y/o was mental or not. If we are about psychological reports prior to guns being transferred, Id love to be a psychologist.
But a gun is an inanimate object. A gun will not work unless someone or something pulls the trigger. We have to find out how to stop the crazies from pulling that trigger.

Do we need strict laws on who can purchase a gun, or more stringent background checks? Probably, but we need to find an answer that still allows the legal law abiding citizens to access them for sport and hunting.

How can we fixed the problem without penalizing all?

I don’t think there is an answer that will satisfy everyone, but there has to be a middle ground for most.

FWIW I posted a thread with context and explanations of all the so called “school shootings” this year, and half of them weren’t what the average person would call a school shooting.

We need more conservatives to teach our youth in an academic environment. That is the only way to get rid of the liberal bias.

Why don’t we have more conservative teachers, you ask? Clearly it’s because the system is set-up to be a hostile environment for conservatives. Not only have the liberals fought against school prayer and kept guns out of school, but also set up a socialist system of free secondary education that is controlled by teachers unions with no incentive for performance. 😏

My favorite talking point is that 2A was from the time of muskets. I really don't want the crazies discovering black powder.
My favorites are… cannons weren’t allowed in the olden days and that deer aren’t wearing Kevlar vests

False.it was not half. Most occurred on a school and at school related functions. You should have read what you posted
