Marquise Lightfoot is not hurt

I think he could be an every down player against ACC schools and a team like an Ole Miss…but can’t imagine he’s able to hang in there for four quarters against a physical downhill run team.

He did play a lot in the natty though.

Moten and Scott allow Heatherman to run Lightfoot out a ton more, especially in ACC play. If he adds 10-15lbs to get to 240-245, he starts to become a real every-down guy until the CFP. When we play the B10/SEC teams, he could struggle setting the edge against 330+ OTs.

What I said was probably too standoffish because he of course could be an every down guy. For now I think he mixes in perfectly as that guy you can move around while the freaks up front do their work.

He’s a mismatch nightmare with his motor so I’d just avoid trying to make him take on 320lb tackles all the time just to make him more of an every down guy. We will have others for that
Do you think Lightfoot could ever make the move to more of an OLB/hybrid role to get more time on the field? He moves really well in space, can rush the passer well, and theoretically has the length to make up ground in coverage. Not exactly like Arvell Reese, but kind of. I feel like with such a talented tweener, you scheme him into your calls so he can make plays.

I like using him at LBer on early downs like OSU used Reese. Lightfoot would be at End if we are in a bear front otherwise he is a standup LBer. We could have Damon Wilson & Lowe/Blount/Nebraska kid as our starting edges on early downs. Lightfoot would be the 5th rusher Hetherman loves to bring from the LBer spot versus that guy being primarily the nickel back this year.

We'd maximize his snaps while minimizing exposing him to setting the edge against an OT on early downs. If Toure is back, we could do some terrifying simulated pressures crowding the line with Lightfoot and Toure stood up, sending one or two of them and dropping an edge

This is the move.

I think next year we'll see him playing a stand up Quick End, wheel we'll have a Rush End whose bigger (i.e., Bain's size) Queue incoming Damon Wilson, who can play both pass and run.
Mesidor was much better on the pass then run.

Lightfoot is an extremely useful piece if you look outside the box of standard 4 down linemen,

Think of more 3 down linemen with a stand up end/lb that can cover, spy, or play man.
I can see him running the seam with some TE.

He was the reason running QBs had a hard time vs us.

I think Reese is a great comp. Both are in that 6-4/6-5, 235 range and are used as an edge rusher and a spy. Neither is an every down rush end and Lightfoot would be ideal in a 3-4 OLB type of hybrid role. JMO

A few of us were talking about this off the board but I remember the days where “tweener” was a death sentence at Miami

The way Hetherman was deploying people this year throws a lot of that out of the window. If you’ve got Scott, Moten, and Blount on the line you can go a lot of different ways from there. If you’ve got Lowe and Lightfoot in there that’s just freak athleticism

If Wiley is who we think he is that’s another one

Let’s not even mention Wilson…

He can add 10-15 pounds before next season
I don't know about 10-15 pounds, but these kids are all still growing. 7,8 months in a college weight room will lead to some positive body recomposition or weight change. He's not going to be 270 or 280, but I think he can be an every down DE. We've seen more than enough violence from him. He's not scared of contact or too light.

Lol my bad (no jinx on the guy we will no longer name). Yeah, Wiley is a key piece for next year's defense. If Toure is back, I assume we try to limit his snaps early in the year considering his injury history. Opportunity is going to be there to seize.

I'm curious to see if we see a lot of Pruitt at Nickel/LBer next year. IU playing base 4-3 most of the game against us was a huge deal in their ability to contain our run game, IMO. Can't imagine Hetherman didn't get a bit jealous watching that.

Wiley is pretty intriguing. Wouldn’t shock me if he’s bigger than Lightfoot next year. Could be bigger than him now not sure

My favorite part of the Heatherman hire was getting the LB room back where it belongs

I've seen him in person. Folks are underestimating his size. For some reason, he's being compared to the Vegas kid whose name escapes me. He's not that guy.
Based on his play his size is of no concern to me. He gonna be one of the best edges in the country.
