Markel Bell vs Florida

I’ve said something negative about bells play a few games ago but I gotta Give credit where it’s due , he balled out vs uf. Getting concerned about cici, he’s given up 2 sacks this year to notre dame and the the freshman vs uf. Mauigoa run blocking has been great

Amazing how much Bell improved from last year. Brockermeyer looked good the first two games, but had the yips against USF and then really had the yips vs Florida. Rain may have had something to do with it.

Watch the play. He didn't give up ****. He had the dude stonewalled, the back came over and chipped and knocked him right into Beck. This is why all these grades are taken with a massive grain of salt. There are exactly zero point zero coaches, scouts, or execs who watch that film and say that sack is on Mauigoa. But I assume his PFF grade says it is? Bull****.
Ok I just watched it again. I'm not going to give Francis a complete pass, but I see what you're saying regarding the chip by the RB. RB sent the DE to the inside of Cici.

I didn't mention PFF....lighten up homie. We on the same team.

No disrespect meant. You're not the first one to say it. I'm just saying, we gotta watch the games and be better.

Selfishly, I was thinking we could lure him back next year due to the jr college rule, but he's playing himself into a day2 pick (or better who knows).
if he's smart, he comes back another year and perfects his craft at LT and becomes not only a sure fire 1st rounder but legit could be a top 3-5 pick

We're good. The fact it was you pushing back made me actually look for the clip to watch again. Lo and behold, you made a valid point.
I missed the RB chip during the live game. The angle I saw on tiv showed the DE crossing Maui's face. My point wasn't to hammer Francis (pause), it was simply to point out that one of our best (Francis) even makes mistakes. The unit as a whole is performing amazingly (pause), so I'm nitpicking like crazy.

The silent killer!

If you want something or someone to complain about, you could look at Mauigoa's pass protection. He gave up the only sack (pause) Saturday night. Yes, St. Francis of the Roadgrade is fallible. Now, this doesn't mean he's not a first rounder, but it is factually true that his pass blocking isn't at the same level his run blocking is.

Samson has played VERY well this year. Better than Bell? I'm not sure it's possible to say given that Samson doesn't get much/any reps at LT. If Samson sticks around another year (or two), he will be the LT and will be a first round pick. I think he's been way better than McCoy thus far, but tha's not to say McCoy has been bad.

Cooper is just fun to watch. He loves kicking azs and talking smack. Brockermeyer is fine. He just needs to stop having ticks and seizures before he snaps the ball.
You would certainly know better than me my friend

I will say I’ve not been too big on Bell but to my eyes that was maybe his best game as a Miami Hurricane on Saturday

Samson against ND was a revelation

Just an amazing group that might just keep getting better if that left side continues to improve

Bell, Cooper, and Mauigoa are all absolutely ruining people.

I don't really have any complaints at LG, I think ultimately Samson takes that spot but it's just not overwhelmingly great right now like the other 3 are.

And Brockermeyer has actually been blocking fine, from what I've seen, obviously the snaps are concerning.

But I think 3/5 of the line are as good as any players at their positions in the country right now.

It takes me a while to come around to things that are insanely positive for this program, just because I'm conditioned to not be able to have anything nice, ever, but as the weeks are going by, I really am starting to think that Miami actually does have the best OL/DL combination in the country. And if you want to get absolutely ******* insane, there's a conversation to be had here that Miami has the singular best OL AND the singular best DL at this point. Which is wild to even say, considering we watched Middle Tennessee State run through us like **** through a tin horn not THAT long ago.....but I'm starting to come around to the idea that it might be genuine.

If we don't have the #1 OL and #1 DL, we're certainly in a class where it doesn't take long to call roll.

And as I and many others here have said for months now, if you have a truly great OL and DL, it's very difficult to not be a very good football team. We have a great OL and DL, and we have a very, very good football team. Keep it rolling. Winning? Actually fun!
Brock is absolutely legit...he just had a rough game

He had a VERY rough game... not only the bad snaps that did make it, I think he accounted for 4 pre-snap penalties. In a game where Beck was not on those penalties kill us because it throws us behind the stick and we cant rely on 4 yrds and a cloud of dust to get us into a manageable situation. Offense is very much about keeping on pace. Lets also remember UF was down like 7 starters on D and the DL was hit the hardest by injuries, we were playing their B squad and too many gaps and missed assignments. Overall I felt like it was good coach tape and not a glaring talent or scheme issue like last year.

But by way of example look at this play on third and long to start the 4th quarter when the game was still close score wise:

showing pressure 5 man front, 2 high safety

2.png

guy over Coop/RG fell back, only rushing 4. Coop is lost looking for someone to hit, left side stunted and Brock did a poor job passing off his guy to samson who gets beat and Brock is about to get beat, we had 6 guys blocking 4 and they got home in 3 seconds, only reason that is important is look at CJ/Lofton route combo on the right, CJ is about to be wide open because the safety and CB both take Lofton in the flat:

Look at CJ in the top right corner. Another half a second he is walking in for a 70 yard score, instead we punted and gave them another chance to take the lead.
