Hes gonna get the Mario-Mirabal bump in the draft if he has a clean year. He's a giant human that'll be a near two-year starter at left tackle for a pretty good Power 5 program. The giant human is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there.
I'm curious to see what he'll look like this year because he wasn't always clean and yeah, he looked a bit slow at times. We'll see.
Jalen Rivers was drafted in the 5th round and Markel Bell's presence facilitated Rivers to a full time move to the interior, which he'll now play in the pros. Tackle has a higher premium. I know he's got warts, but I think its not unfair to think he can be in that draftable projection right now. If you look at any draft, you'll find that R5-R7 OT (starting late in R4 for some teams, too) are filled with selections of these 6'5"-6'8", 310 to who-knows-what-weight P5 offensive lineman with warts they try and develop. Maybe thats him or maybe thats him on the UDFA side of things.
I said this before he even enrolled here...but he didn't come here to play school. He always seemed like a player that took his development serious and had a plan to be out of here in two years. He seems on track to do just that, but we'll see if he's just another in a long line of talented players that give us 75 cents on the dollar here.
Had rivers not have the leg injuries and health he likely goes higher than 5th round too.
* On the bolded a juco kid starting 2 years is par for the course. To me he wouldve fulfilled his role and allowed us to shirt guys under him and let guys like Samson develop?.
