Markel Bell Question

He's a giant human that'll be a near two-year starter at left tackle for a pretty good Power 5 program. The giant human is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there.

I'm curious to see what he'll look like this year because he wasn't always clean and yeah, he looked a bit slow at times. We'll see.

Jalen Rivers was drafted in the 5th round and Markel Bell's presence facilitated Rivers to a full time move to the interior, which he'll now play in the pros. Tackle has a higher premium. I know he's got warts, but I think its not unfair to think he can be in that draftable projection right now. If you look at any draft, you'll find that R5-R7 OT (starting late in R4 for some teams, too) are filled with selections of these 6'5"-6'8", 310 to who-knows-what-weight P5 offensive lineman with warts they try and develop. Maybe thats him or maybe thats him on the UDFA side of things.

I said this before he even enrolled here...but he didn't come here to play school. He always seemed like a player that took his development serious and had a plan to be out of here in two years. He seems on track to do just that, but we'll see if he's just another in a long line of talented players that give us 75 cents on the dollar here.
Hes gonna get the Mario-Mirabal bump in the draft if he has a clean year.

Had rivers not have the leg injuries and health he likely goes higher than 5th round too.

* On the bolded a juco kid starting 2 years is par for the course. To me he wouldve fulfilled his role and allowed us to shirt guys under him and let guys like Samson develop?.

Again, I’m an amateur, but I thought he was also bending at the hips and lunging a lot. I’m going off memory and haven’t gone back and watched last years film, which I will when I have some time. Good to hear he was a progressing. Keep us posted. (This was a reply to @Cane30)

Would be curious to hear @Lance Roffers thoughts on Bell
yea he has leverage issues. most ppl at that height get into that.

thats something that i hope he works on and part of development for him....coming out of his pass pro quicker and his leverage issues. (sometimes that can even happen from fatigue/cardio) with line man as well.

*Bell has another level to get to...hopefully Mirabal hits that and we will see EARLY with ND.

The holes in his game you have pointed out and seen. Now he has put it on tape and can look back and see what needs the correction and developing. Thats why i was glad he started right away last year. They baptized him......Samson hopefully steps up so we can see him in some acc level games for series or two keeping him engaged and preparing to be a bookend tackle in 26.

His ability to handle the speed rush was my biggest concern about the O line going into the season but after hearing Mario call him the most improved player on the team I'm feeling more optimistic. He was good enough to play last year and not out of necessity either. That experience he got last season will be huge for him/us.

I had concerns about Rivers at LT going into the 23 season (Kelly running right by him in the spring game exacerbated those concerns), and he far exceeded my expectations that year. Mirabal had him ready.

I definitely have concerns about Bell this year (more than I did with Rivers to be honest), but I am banking on another year of development under Mirabal.

He's probably gone after this year with anything close to an All Conference season.
This. If he’s slightly improved from last season, he’ll probably be a first round pick with his size and athleticism. On the Flip side, we’ll be losing both our starting tackles along with bringing in another QB, maybe im think a little ahead but yikes

If those players are drafted high, we're cooking with a killer season, and no big deal.

Maugoa (hopefully I spelled his name right) will definitely be first round baring no major injury 🙏🏿, Bell steps up big time then I feel bad for opposing dlines (not really).

Bell walked in and was instantly better than samson. He's **** near 6'9 with a crazy wingspan.

So basically you dont like Bell because you like Samson?? and want to see him start?. which is crazy to me. lol

Samson doesnt have much strength, all of that elite athleticism and footwork dont mean much when you cant move ppl and its a huge step up in the comp your facing so you take a while to settle in.

There isnt much 6'8+ dudes that move or are built like Bell.

The one game i could say Bell was getting beat off the snap he was going against the top 3 pass rusher in the country TO ME.
I want to see Samson improve and take Bells job because I think Samson’s ceiling is much higher. I think bell is capped due to a lack of athleticism.

I mean for what is actually best for us, it's probably better that Bell is just a dawg and then we hopefully get 2 years of Samson being a dawg. It'd also be ideal for McCoy to be the starting LG and Rodriguez to be the primary backup for all 3 interior positions and then start at Center the following year.

In this thread to say Dmoney or whoever, is committing war crimes for the advertisements on this website. Call me a cheap ******* if you like!

Bell should absolutely not be on the 2026 roster. This is one Mirabel has to point to when he’s out on the recruiting trail. No excuses for this physical specimen not to be a top 45 pick. Jmo. You shouldn’t need 3 years of college film when your 6’9 340 and have skinny ankles.

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought getting JUCO years back wasn’t a guarantee. It still requires a waiver.
