Mark Walton woulda been the #1 rb in the country this year

For all you guys that think Walton is an above average back , there really is no debate here. He is no where close to being even an average back in the ACC.

As I look through the stats,I'm struggling to prove he is not the worst RB in the ACC

Of the 14 RBs in the ACC with over 100 carries ,only 1 had a worse per carry avr (Tyler Bell ,Wake Forest 3.5) compared to Walton at 3.55.

Anyone that saw the games this past year knows that once Walton was in space he was electric. The biggest problems were that garbage offensive line and the penalties that negated 2-3 of his TDs

If this were true then his long run for the year would be better than 27 yards.

In all honesty he needed an RS this year he only played because Gus got hurt

I would counter this with the fact he was always brought in on the goal line after Yearby got them there. He's a good back, but #1 ? Not so sure.

No offense to Walton, but electric as an adjective to describe him his one of the more laughable things I've read on here.

Yes, he's young and yes the OL play was poor. Running backs don't just all of a sudden explode into a better player and it's the easiest position for you to tell what you've got from the jump. He's an average back, that's no slight, he still has a free ride and there's thousands of backs across the country who don't get that shot.

As to the reason for this thread, he may have had a shot at the top RB in the class per the premise set forth. As another said, this is a very weak year for running backs and next year only looks slightly better IMHO.

I wasn't impressed with him when I saw him play for BTW and kept hearing and reading all the hype about him and again wasn't impressed by what we saw from him this year.To me he could be a better slot WR and should switch like Powell did at UF.Made some great catches all year but did nothing at RB even again the weak, slow teams on our schedule.

Hmmm. Your logic is flawed - I don't follow how your argument somehow contradicts what I said. I said he didn't have space because the offensive line was horrendous. Yearby's longest run was 41 yards. Gray's was 33. All of them suffered because of the offensive line.

In high school Walton excelled out of playing in a spread type offense that utilizes him in space and catching out of the backfield. Going off of what Richt has done in the past you really wonder if Walton fits what he runs. I think he could be a Moreno type of back going off of Richts previous backs.

I doubt it.. Richt was working hard to flip Walton out of high school. He had Georgia #2 on his list when things got a little shakey.

Not necessarily saying this about the OP but some of you are seemingly more concerned about what a kid does/did in high school than what he ends up actually doing for us.

A good chunk of people on this forum are such clowns. I love how they are ready to bash Walton after his true freshman season. I'm guessing most of you are the same people that were roasting Artie Burns after last season (I know, I was arguing with most of you on this forum) and calling Artie a bust or overrated. You'll all be sweating Walton after next season and acting like you were supporting him all along. Clown show.

Nah, most just talk out of both sides of their mouths, there's a difference.

The guy you quoted said Walton is electric in space....one of the funniernthings I've read here. I also missed his comment about Burns. Those dumping on Burns last year obviously have a low football IQ and are probably the same who said AQM would be our highest draft pick in the upcoming draft. I said Burns would and once again I'm right.

I most certainly did say he was electric in space. I guess you missed that one handed catch he made in our last game? Or the play where he completely reversed field that resulted in a huge gain? The TD he had called back earlier this year on a BS hold? When you're not jamming him into the middle of a weak offensive line the kid makes plays.

Our offense was a mess this year. Somehow all our players that go pro end up doing better in the NFL with real coaching. The potential with our players has always been there just never came to fruition under Shannon/Golden. Truly excited to see the difference this year with Richt

And I wouldn't want you to miss it again, so my pro-Burns posts can be found here. Along with all of the haters that were bashing him after Crawford quit.

If Mark Walton were the only college RB I had ever seen play I would tend to think he was a very good RB. But the truth is , you only need look within the ACC to find as many as 10 RB who are better.

I root for the guy every time he touches the ball and hope something changes next year and he has a great year for the sake of the team but I don't think its going to happen because as someone else already mentioned -with a RB you pretty much know what you got from the get go.

All these RB had more yards and a better per carry avr than Walton

Wayne Gallman -Clem 5.51/carry
Dalvin Cook- FSU 7.38
Elijah Hood- UNC 6.68
Qadree Ollison -Pitt 5.29
Travon McMillan- VT 5.21
Lamar Jackson -UL 5.89
Matthew Dayes- NCST 6.46
Jordan Fredericks- Syr 5.67
Marcus Marshall -GT 7.60
Joe Yearby UM- 4.89

Mark Walton UM 3.55
