Mark Walton News

This isn't even necessarily pertinent to this case aside from the police's public reaction and this story leading the freakin' 6pm local news but kids that come/stay here need to realize that this isn't your typical Collegetown, USA. There are instances like this whereas you get no slack by law enforcement when at State U in Bumfuk the officer would probably ask for an autograph. This is a pro sports/event town and you're not going to be put on a pedestal despite what Billy Cohen's films told you. Christ, Beach cops don't even care if you actually are a $100 million dollar pro athlete so some kid that is still living off his high school fame isn't going to get a break.

x2 significant mistakes for this young man...

1) driving with suspended license for a year; and

2) DUI (equivalent to firing gun at random into the air)...

Now..should his Miami life be over? Probably not so long as he's not been in trouble before...

Should he be on his last chance?

Absolutely...

Decision staff has to make is this: is this young man worth the effort to rehabilitate from a good/productive citizen aspect?

Anyone know how Richt reacted to these types of issues at UGA?

I can forgive a lot of transgressions, but a college kid driving on a suspended license is not among them. That's more than technically criminal. Anyone who would drive knowing his license is suspended has no conscience and is likely to lead a life of hard crime. True psychopath there. UM needs to cut ties before this cancer spreads.

Not defending those who drive on a suspended license, but I will say our Nation has more than one young war fighter (college aged kids) who drive on suspended licenses. We catch them, support them, discipline them appropriately, and move on...

Until they do it again (if they are that stupid)..and then we take more draconian action...

Staff just needs to decide if this young man is worth the effort...

This was a pretty stupid thing for him to do but my life is full of stupid things I did. I served my punishments, learned, and moved on. Hopefully Mark can do the same and continue on with his career having learned an important lesson fairly early. Whatever the law gives him and a couple games should be enough. A full boot seems like it would be pretty harsh. I'm in no position to judge him, I was an asshat when I was his age.

All the staff needs to do is look at the recidivist rate for minors who drive on a suspended license. It's an alarming figure. Unless he's an outlier, odds are that Mr. Walton is far along the road to self destruction. This staff does not have the resources or time to help make a u turn.

Let's also understand why the kid had his license suspended. He didn't pay a speeding ticket. It is possible he didn't have the money to pay for his ticket.

Looks like the kid is still in lockup. Surprised nobody has bonded him out yet. Richt letting him spend a night in TGK on purpose? Damnnnn. Wonder if Mama Duke is working?

Where are you getting all this from? You also said they didn't pull him over? What did he do turn himself in?

He was just released.

Like I said, there's nothing about impersonating an officer

Apparently it's an ongoing investigation completely unrelated to this incident. Someone posted the article earlier in the thread, the officers investigating that were apparently following him or watching him and noticed he looked drunk and called in other police.

The article also said that he was parked in his car and not actively driving when the police arrived. After finding out the circumstances of this, I have to revise my opinion and say he should not be punished too severely, hopefully the separate investigation turns out to be nothing. Wish the young man the best.
