Are you guys serious? I think he actually asked a decent question...Kinda does says alot about a coach when his assistants go on to be great...(Saban, Urban, even Butch)...15 Years as a HC and not 1 person has elevated them self to at least be the winning HC of a lower FBS team?
A lot of us ridicule this staff for where they will likely end up once they leave here. But most of UGA staff is taking lateral moves..nobody is being pursue'd in upgrade fashion outside of Richt hiring Brown with the co-oc title.
Decent question IMO...could've been asked in a less "**** richt" fashion but I see the point he is making.
Agree that is a fair question.
By the same token, a coach like John L. Smith had a bunch of quality assistants under him at Idaho, Louisville, and
Michigan Sate who proceeded to do really well, but would you want Smith to coach our program?
Conversely, many of Brian Kelly's assistants have not done much after moving on with possible exception of Diaco at
UConn.....but we would all hire Kelly in a heartbeat.
Kirby Smart was a Mark Richt assistant

Heres a great question, what do you hope to gain from all this chest thumping your doing on here? I mean seriously ,what is there to gain? At no point is anyone going to say your right? Are we supposed to get with you and start flying banners over the hecht because of a special teams coordinator?
If he is the coach, and most people are fairly happy with that. You in turn need to hand over the keys to the car and let him drive it. It is NEVER beneficial if the GM/Owner/AD micro manages a HC. How about that, show me a situation where that is beneficial, and working well. Cowboys? Nope, Redskins? Nope, UGA recently, Nope.
We hired him, and he deserves the right to make his coaching decisions and go from there.
Go back and watch some old games of the U. I recently did and the announcer was RAVING about how great a DC Randy Shannon was and that he one day soon would be running his own team..blah blah blah. I just laughed and shut it off!
I'd love to discuss all the elite coaches that came up under Richt in his 15 years at UGA.
Since I am unable to find any, I figure the board can use this post to inform me.....
He's had some decent coaches under him including Neil Calloway, who was his first OC and is now coaching
the OL at Western Kentucky.
Brian VanGorder is a pretty good coach, currently the DC at NDame.
Scott Lakatos was a highly-regarded DB coach at Rutgers and UConn before he took the UGA gig.
He left there for "personal reasons" and is now at Monmouth.
Not sure what happened there.
Kirk Olivadotti worked for him and is now with the Skins.
He lost another OLine coach, Stacey Searles, to LSU, and he later moved to Texas and
coached at VT the last 2-3 years.
No one will ever confused his coaching tree with that of Larry Kehres, Bill Snyder or Hayden Fry, but
lots of great coaches have also had disciples that have not fared well when they have moved
on.
also, when the new AD took over, he was forced to hire coaches that they wanted.
LOL I love this angle. I really do.
The idea that Mark Richt wasn't allowed to call plays or manage his own staff is laughable. I like Richt, didn't have him in my top 5 of coaching candidates, but I think he is a good coach.
But you look very foolish and pathetic when you try to sugar coat the fact that he 1) doesn't have an eye for coaching talent 2) doesn't win big games 3) got fired from a program that isn't as successful as we are.
For comparison sake look at a guy like Urban Meyer, who is the one of the best in the business.
Kyle Whittingham- HC Utah
Gary Anderson- HC WI/Oregon St
Dan Mullen- HC MissSt
Steve Addazio- HC BC
Tom Herman- HC Houston
Chris Ash- HC Rutgers
He also had Mike Sanford (HC UNLV/Illinois St), Mike Sanford Jr (OC ND), Jay Hill (HC Weber St) all at Utah. I think it is 6 or 7 current HCs on 1 staff.
Hiring a great staff is one of the most important jobs a HC can do. Richt has to get this right.

Amen. Hopefully you won't be banned for stating a fact though......
Here's a Saban tree:
Jason Garrett (NFL HC)
Mark Dantonio (BIG HC)
Jimbo Fisher (National Champ HC)
Jim McElwain (SEC HC)
Jeremy Pruitt (SEC DC)
Not that I wanted to BBB, but here is a Davis tree:
Pagano (NFL HC)
Chud (NFL OC and former HC)
Todd Bowles (NFL HC)
Greg Schiano (Former NFL HC, OSU DC)
Bruce Arians (NFL HC)
Everett Withers (JMU HC)
vs. Brian Van Gorder.........it's extremely worrisome when you hear he's bringing a bunch of his former players to be coaches when he has a horrendous track record of hiring and developing coaches.

Todd Bowles (NFL HC) Butch poached him from the Jets in a lateral move for him, probably more money. Again, not a butch product.
Greg Schiano (Former NFL HC, OSU DC) 1 yr with Butch, after working his way to the pros on his own, so no BD did not develop him.
Bruce Arians (NFL HC)Again, completely grew himself as a coach long before working with butch at cleveland. Never even coached here.
Everett Withers (JMU HC) Well established long before coaching under Butch. Was even an asst in the pros.
