If it’s just “he doesn’t want to be at Miami”, then why was everyone so confident he was coming here? Seems that fact was overlooked or assumed

I think Matthews is believing the SEC hype. That's all I can see. It's not like he's likely to commit to LSU, Bama, UGA, or Texas. Those schools have championships albeit none of them have more than Miami.
Either the coaches completely missed the warning signs (troublesome) or they were doubtful all along (which would make you think why weren't we hedging our bets) or Matthews and camp were lying the whole time. I doubt it's the first given Mario is a crootin vet.
Exactly, you move on. Just like the MJC recruitment. Now if one or the other or even both want to flip to Miami then great. It's not over until they sign in December/February.Enough of this guy... Sucks we missed out on him, but I'm not gonna sit here and fascinate about him. Truth is idgaf what he does if he isn't playing for us. If he switches up, great. I'll root for him.
Otherwise, for me, he's a professional athlete that chose to play elsewhere, not gonna stress over the young man. That's just the way it is.
He has won a Natty there so I think he’s doing just fine.
The name of the kid from NJ was brought up by D$ a couple weeks ago, staff surely had some idea on Matthews. The board just assumed it was in addition to not in place ofEither the coaches completely missed the warning signs (troublesome) or they were doubtful all along (which would make you think why weren't we hedging our bets) or Matthews and camp were lying the whole time. In this NIL era its beneficial for kids to have Miami in their top group. Also, maybe the kid was on the fence about going to Miami or leaving home and he fell in love with A&M. Everything isnt black or white.Either the coaches completely missed the warning signs (troublesome) or they were doubtful all along (which would make you think why weren't we hedging our bets) or Matthews and camp were lying the whole time. too many who post on the recruiting board do not want to hear that. This is the cold, hard truth that many on this board just cannot or refuse to comprehend. If you’ve recruited him to the fullest and you’re willing to pay whatever it takes and yet the kid still doesn’t want to come, there’s nothing you can do about it.
Some kids just don’t like Miami. Say it to yourselves again.
Wake up yourself. Who is regurgitating anything? I did read that he has a $3M per year multi year deal. And yes ... A&M has oil money. I haven't seen anyone "or their mother" saying he took less $$ to go to A&M.Everyone and their mother is reporting he is taking less money to go to A&M but yes let’s keep regurgitating this nonsense about oil money
Wake up and smell the roses. We lost the recruiting battle in April. Luckily signing day isn’t until December.

High bidder on Matthews. It's not money. The numbers we heard for Cantwell last year was 5M for 3 years, the numbers we've seen for this kid is 8 or 9M for 3 years.Almost double,so when Dmoney says miami was willing to pay top money does he mean they were willing to match Tam or they were willing to pay him at Cantwell's level, there is a big difference there.
I am pretty certain Cantwell is getting $1.5 million. We backed out of the Seaton bidding war at $3.5. Maybe those #'s can help you some.Wake up yourself. Who is regurgitating anything? Let's make this clear, since we have people here who think unless you gargle Mario's nuts, you are not a fan.
This discussion was NEVER about our ability to develop OL. It was about whether other schools can develop OL, specifically A&M, period.
I brought up A&Ms ability to develop OL, because we had posters saying Matthews would be dumb to go to A&M instead of Miami, as he would not get developed there. Well, based on the data that is not an accurate assessment.
The reality is this, nobody knows who can/will develop Matthews better. Only time will be the judge of that. What I can say for certain is that Matthews choosing A&M if based on developing OL is not a bad choice.
People acting as if Mario/Alex are the only coaches/programs who can develop OL is laughable. Or saying without question they are the best developers of OL is also comical. Between 8 years as OU and UM, they have had 9 total OL drafted. 6 of those 9 went in the 5th and later. The other 3 included 2 first rounders and 1 3rd rounder (Bell), he was not a 2nd rounder by the way.
In comparison, during that same 8 year stretch;
Alabama has had 6 1st round picks at OL and 13 drafted overall.
Georgia has also had 6 1st round picks at OL 18 and drafted overall.
Ohio State has had 4 1st round picks at OL and 15 drafted overall.
Point is this, OL can actually go to other programs and expect to get developed just as good, if not better than had they chose to attend UM. Doesn't take away from how good Mario and Alex are at developing OL, but they aren't the only ones who can develop OL.
