2027 Mark Matthews 5* OL from STA Commits to TAMU

we took a JUCO kid and he became a day 1 starter at tackle here. there are things to be critical of, but OL from the very beginning under mario has been a nonissue.
I was critical on the OL coaching previously based on draft results produced at Oregon but ultimately I was wrong. I think the 1st two years of Mario were not great overall but the last two were the opposite. I think Mario deserved the criticism before and likewise deserves the credit and praise now.

I never thought we would get to a natty game again. I was good with Mario once we got into the playoffs because all I wanted was to be competitive and respected again. The job he and Alex did with Bell is A+.

****. Look I can’t put too much on Cristobal and Co. for the unfortunate way this is trending. We are paying top dollar , just played in the national championship, and had multiple OL get drafted.

it sucks but what can you do?

I can sort of understand the thinking of Jeremiah Smith a couple years ago - we didn’t have much to showcase and OSU had an excellent track record with WRs. This one doesn’t make much sense unless it’s one of those situations where a players parents absolutely want him to get out of state and away from bad influences. I don’t think that’s the case here. If he just feels like TAMU is a better fit, I guess that’s the way it is.

It’s like on going on a few dates with a girl, things are going well, but then she just texts you out of the blue and says, “I just don’t feel the chemistry.” (I am trying to remember what dating was like around 2010ish so apologies if this isn’t how it’s done anymore).

Not a god**** thing you can do about it. Take the L and move on.

I think Matthews is believing the SEC hype. That's all I can see. It's not like he's likely to commit to LSU, Bama, UGA, or Texas. Those schools have championships albeit none of them have more than Miami.

Matthew’s is a RT? I know u have to pay but if A&M is double I wouldn’t match it no reason to do so
Yes he's a RT...You will find yourself in a situation where you will make that excuse for all the highly talented players if you keep thinking like that...
I’m not gonna say A&M can’t put him in the league they did just have several drafted. Just crazy to think ur hometown team is THE BEST at developing OL and u choose else where just seems dumb. But goodluck to the kid he should be good no matter where he goes

$$$ from the oil men seems to be the clinching factor. A&M just way "over paid" based on what made sense for Miami to pay ... and at the same time maintain it's roster balance. Can't get everyone.

Why are you claiming money when it’s been said multiple times that it’s not about money

Everyone and their mother is reporting he is taking less money to go to A&M but yes let’s keep regurgitating this nonsense about oil money

Wake up and smell the roses. We lost the recruiting battle in April. Luckily signing day isn’t until December.

All good. But dude whos name sounds like the Survivor theme song lyrics wont really get us positive momentum. Losing on the best player down here for some random nobody, even if they are equal talents, is a recruiting failure.

What does this even mean?

If he was there for 5 days it sounds like a serious business or real estate deal. There is no other way I see a kid leaving Sofla as a top oline recruit. Especially if he took less money. The package they offered must be an investment.

Anyone have Gaby’s post?
These are the two key paragraphs.

This is the cold, hard truth that many on this board just cannot or refuse to comprehend. If you’ve recruited him to the fullest and you’re willing to pay whatever it takes and yet the kid still doesn’t want to come, there’s nothing you can do about it.

Some kids just don’t like Miami. Say it to yourselves again.
