BigDikDaddy killing this thread.
We should re-title the thread to acknowledge his walking around swinging his thang.

It’s obviously a miss.

the impact / how we react is all that matters though. If we miss Mathews but land Olu for cheaper or even possibly substantially cheaper… how impactful is it really? Still a miss for sure. But a correct decision not to match the offer? Well that’s up to them to prove on the field.

I’d say the rank order of Spending need is probably:
1. EDGE/DT1
2. OT1
3. DT1
4. EDGE/DT2
5. WR1
6. Safety1
7. LB1
8. EDGE/DT3
9. CB1
10. RB1
11. OL2
12-25. The rest

HonestLy again if it was up to me I wouldn’t even be landing the 5star qb and instead be dedicating that money to the Chicago DLineman…

Yup good list

1. QB (obviously the portal system seems to be the safer route than HS so unless you absolutely love/know, why spend on the HS qb)
2. OT
3. Edge
4. DT
-----

5. WR
-----

6. CB
7. Safety/Nickle versatility type DB
-------

9. TE
10. LB
10. Traditional, more one dimensional safety types
11. IOL

Obviously there are elite players and outliers at every position, but I think overall roster spending should be allocated ^^^

Miami has a top 5 NIL but we can't seem to see it these days. We have to be able to win a battle for a big time player at some point, seems like Miami doesn't want to go all in while several team do.

But don't forget we are going all in Mensah

Our allocation model is working thus far.

To use imaginary figures, let’s say the NIL spend for 2027 is:

Top WR: $1.25
Top existing OLman: $1.25
Quarterback: $2.12

A£M comes in with a $5.17 offer. To a true freshman who has not played a snap. You exceed it and give him $5.40.

Now what happens with your quarterback, wide receiver, and existing top offensive lineman. Why should Matthews make more than all of them?

He shouldn’t.

So now those players have to be elevated.

You’ve also set the floor for whatever 2028 five star offensive lineman that you want to bring in. It’s now $5.40.

Thus your overall NIL spend becomes exponentially greate

NCAA could've got in front of this 15 years ago...players would have accepted pennies on the dollar, now the horse is out of the barn

Moten, Pancake, the secondary, Wilson, the WR room, Scottt, Lightfoot...none of them are cheap...

The same works for the Aggies. Whatever price they set for Matthews becomes the floor for a 2028 blue chip lineman. It also will put salary pressure on other positions.

I am more concerned with top 100 recruits versus 5 stars. I want more top 100 than a few 5 stars. That is where to me we are seriously lacking compared to other programs. We need to sign way more top 100 guys.

Bryce Fitzgerald wasn't top 100
Mal Toney wasn't top 100
Xavier Lucas
OJ Frederique

We all want great players…We won't win without great players. But knowing who the real top 100 (for lack of better word) is the most important thing is.

Yep and with oil @100+ dollars the guys with oil money have a whoooole lot more oil money..
It doesn't work like this.

They've sold their oil months ahead of time, so unless this war lasts another 6 months it's not the windfall you think it is.

Its a miss but a massive failure like you stated is an emotional exaggeration. Im not making excuses. Im not just going to sit here and cry about it. You aren't going to get everyone.

It's a massive failure. And no one is crying, at least I'm not.

I said it a few months ago but since we have started winning the new thing will be a recruit saying he will be forming my own path since Miami is back and I don’t need to stay and put on for the crib. Huge miss but not sure what else could be done except overpay him.

Well TA&M got a OT commit this past Sunday Kennedy Brown, good sign that MM comes to US ?
Nah there is precedent for A&M absolutely loading up at a position. They did that on the D line a few years ago when they had the highest ranked class in history.

The question is, how much are you willing to raise Cantwell and other offensive and defensive players.

Let's say A&M is willing to make him the highest paid player on the team as a 5 star true freshman.

We can exceed, but are we also prepared to raise Cantwell and other players?
It's all projects anyway, by those fugazi websites 247, And on3 sports doesn't get me started with ESPN website there ranking doesn't even matter anymore. Remember they said they rank 32 5star cause of the NFL 1st round. At least that's what 247 claimed. How does Harold Pearson from LSU, Leonard Taylor, and others 5star coming out of high school feel. They doesn't know jack.

Obviously not every great player is going to be a top 100 guy. I mean ****, that's a given. That is why we said we need great evals constantly if we indeed continue to be outpaced for the top high school players.

But what do you think has a higher rate of success? Teams that consistently pull the most top 100 recruits in the country, or those that count on evals and developing lower ranked guys?

How about we figure out to do both just a little better. Than we have something that is more consistently dependable IMO.

Who are you guys listening too? Their is spin everywhere. You recruit to get in a kids top 3 or 4. Some 2, like MJC, whatever the #. The agents pretty much take over then, hopefully they have a agent and one who knows what he is doing, not Pops. Cooks family handled theirs very well. Someone had to advise them. It's a agents job to get you the most money. It doesn't matter if your in a city or living in a town of 200, anymore. Life changing money is just that. The final pick comes down to money in at least 8 of 10 kids. I am lost with the lies being made up. It's money almost every single time. Cooper got stupid money. Russell got a 3 year $4.3 million from Cuse. MJC got stupid money. Matthews will blow all of them away in money. It's stupid money everywhere. Only a few schools like A$M can throw that at every player. Did I mention at the end it's, "MONEY"? This is not yesterdays recruiting and a $50,000 grab.
Where was TAMU on Cantwell ?

Money is a HUGE factor but Miami's OL depth is> TAMU's OL depth.

There's money+opportunity.

And even though Matthews would have a great opportunity to start here he is virtually being told he has a starting spot locked in at TAMU.

We are not getting outbid by TAMU.

If Cristobal has shown something is that when he wants a dude on the OL MONEY is never the issue.

I will leave it at that.
