2027 Mark Matthews 5* OL from STA Commits to TAMU

I just dont like the fact that fans will cope and say we did not want to pay if we lost this guy. He is a top priority that we should and will land. If we lose him its a big blow, we need him and defensive tackle cause it can create roster problems next season, then if we dont perform we will know why. Need the dogs in the trenches to keep the machine going and I am sure we will pay a lot and TAMU will go over or match it, then it will come down to the relationships and jobs and all that under the table stuff. Dont want to hear the typical tears that we are ok or that we would not pay that much which would be cap/cope/tears.

You do what you got to do to try and become elite.
Exactly
There’s nothing wrong with admitting your coach just got stiffed in a locker
If all we use is the money copium excuse
Then we never learn from our issues and get better

Difference is Matthews is at a position we put much more value into than cook. We are willing to pay elite lineman much more than we are a rb
As he should be. I don’t get how losing out MJC gets somehow conflated with where Matthews goes. You didn’t, I’m just pointing out that multiple things can be true. Matthews is more important than MJC, is worth more than MJC and losing MJC was a major loss.

This has no effect on Mark Matthews, A&M has the funds to get both players.
I don’t think the question is just about funds. At some point there are practical, playing time concerns, and if any school signs 3 OT’s, all highly ranked, at least 1 will not play. You may think this doesn’t matter to the players, and if the price difference is enough, maybe it doesn’t.

But for smart families, the roster construction is a factor.

Brown will play on the interior.

Yea just cause I support the HC and believe he is the right guy doesn't mean he cant get criticized for a miss. I feel like super fans or super mopes stand on one side and can never get in the middle. Its like a hive mind cave man type ****. I am never one of those

This is probably true, we will find out. I know we will pay and I believe the rumors about us offering top tier money for Jeremiah and Ty. People just dont say **** to say ****, and I am glad they did. It looks good for us for recruits, maybe not the media BS cause they cry all the time. But for recruits it makes us like the Yankees or Dodgers.....willing to pay whatever.

I don't understand why some of you think his number might not be worth matching. What do you guys think "break the bank" actually means?

Everybody knows all the reasons he's a top of the board priority. Mario prioritizes the trenches and specifically the O-line. He is a former O-lineman and O-line coach. That's his specialty. We've got the top OT in the nation sitting in our back yard. Its a no brainer perfect match.

To any other school or coach, he might not be worth the ridiculous price, just as players at other positions might not be worth the price to us. But for Mario and UM, if Matthews isn't worth breaking the bank for, who is?
Worth matching?

The question is worth matching OVER doing XYZ

And there is absolutely logic to saying he's not worth matching depending on the scenarios. It truly depends how much and how it would effect the rest of the class/budget... You'd also have to factor in the ramification for players on the current roster.... Some see that and then say I need a bump. Its all gotta be considered.

Nobody is saying if it's close you don't match. But if it's truly substantially larger than our offer.... Well having the alternative game plan is a worth considering absolutely.

I’ll stop following recruiting if we miss here.

So, I’ve seen what 3 star Tackles with potential are being offered from lower tier schools. I can only imagine what the top guys are getting from bag schools.

Exactly. Even if we miss on Matthews then all that money goes to Olubobola. Either or we’re bringing in another 5* OT.

Brown will play on the interior.
I find this level of certainty fascinating. I accept it as well if you are either, 1. On the TAMU coaching staff, 2. A member of brown’s family.
For anyone else it is little more than pure speculation which may turn out to be true as often as tossed coin lands on heads.
I agree. Most of the guys are gonna try OT first. The money position. They’ll kick to G later if they have to.
