Mark it down..Auburn will Beat Alabama this weekend

I live in bamerville just outside of Birmingham. I am surrounded by Bamers and their obnoxious ways. I actually pull for Auburn(only when it has no negative impact on Miami in any way) just because it ****es them off. Talking to them, they are all very worried about Auburn and dont think they are going to win. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! Most think that we, Miami, will beat them if we play in the playoffs. They are so nervous it is hilarious!

Im picking Auburn to win, even though I know we need bama to win in the small chance that we end up losing one. Though it would be so glorious to see the despair on their sad little faces if they lose to Auburn.

Miami fans should not want Auburn beating Alabama this weekend. Miami fans want these scenarios to play out:

Alabama to beat Auburn and then UGA in the SEC Champ. game
Ohio St. to beat Wisconsin in the Big 10 Champ. game

The reason being, *in case* Clemson gets lucky and beat Miami in the ACC, the teams behind Miami in the College Playoff suffer losses too and Miami remains in the Final Four even with a loss.

In the above scenarios:

Alabama remains undefeated #1
Clemson jumps to #2 with 1 loss
Oklahoma goes #3 with 1 loss
Miami is #4 with 1 loss.

UGA has two losses, Auburn has three losses, Wisconsin has 1 loss, and OSU has 2 losses.

as a miami fan i want a win vs pitt and clemson, who cares what the other teams do.

Good buddy of mine is an Auburn alum has a big party every year. I'll be going over there since Canes play Friday.

Would love to see Bama go down

If Ohio State beats Wisconsin & we lose to Clemson we are out. Don’t kid yourselves. Ohio State WILL be in over us. Their AD is on the committee for christ sakes.

i don't want a playoff berth if we can't beat clemson, who lost to syracuse.

thats crazy that there ad is on the committee..............let the police police themselves...............horrible

That sums up the NCAA pretty well.

Gene Smith has to recuse for Ohio State, so that's not the problem.

The big problem for Miami is that Clemson's AD doesn't have to recuse talking about Miami and neither does Kirby Hocutt or Frank Beamer.
The recuse part is ridiculous. These evals don't happen in a vacuum. Although I know they say it does.

Either way, they will have us at #4 and have us playing #1 in the first round of playoff ...

Noway they want to see the "chain" in the finals.... It would amount to allowing "convicts" in against the traditional powers

This would be bad for us. We need Alabama to win out...just in case.
Fivethirtyeight's odds disagree with you about this.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2017-college-football-predictions/

If you pencil in a win for us against Pitt and a win by Bama against Auburn, our odds of making the playoffs go from 51% (what they are currently projecting) to 53%.

However, if we win against Pitt and Auburn upsets Bama, our odds of making the playoffs jump to 59%.

We should be rooting for Auburn.
In the BCS era, perhaps. However, we are dealing with a committee of people who have their own built in biases. A one loss Miami vs a one loss Alabama and Alabama will get put over by the committee and we will be screwed for no other reason than Saban and their "brand." I believe that if we lose (which we won't) our path would be Alabama winning out, Clemson would be in, Oklahoma (if they win out) would be in, and us ( assuming Ohio State beats Wisconsin). I put us over Ohio State because our record would trump theirs regardless of them winning the Big 10.

Since Auburn winning wont help the U in the playoff picture at all Im rooting for Bama to beat Auburn and besides why should a 2 loss tigers team have a shot in the playoffs which could mean the U getting screwed out of the playoffs.

No way. If Auburn wins SEC, Bama & Auburn are in. We need Bama to beat Auburn & Georgia & eliminate them (to have a prayer if we lose to clemson)

Yeah true

I think most of you are putting too much faith in the playoff committee. They are looking for any reason not to put us in. We need to win out plain and simple. They will put a 2 loss OSU team ahead of us if we lost to Clemson. Same with a 1 loss bama.

THIS x1000 the scumbags are ignoring a 31 point loss to IOWA & punishing a close WIN vs Unc lol

I agree with your logic, but I'm surprised Fivethirtyeight seems so disparate. Yes, they completely botched the Presidential election projection, but they're usually accurate with sports odds. According to that site, if Bama loses to Auburn, Bama is given just a 42% chance of making the playoffs.

Posters seem to think it's considerably higher, as do I. Vegas has Bama a 7:5 payout to win it all, which indicates to me they have a greater than 42% chance of making the playoffs even with a loss to Auburn (which is what Fivethirtyeight lists as their odds). Right now, Bama is -195 to beat Auburn compared to +172 on the ML for Auburn at Pinnacle. This equates to a no-vig 64.26% chance Bama beats Auburn, marginally higher than Fivethirtyeight's 60% projection of Bama beating Auburn.

Thus, Bama should have 64.26% + (1-64.26%)(42%) = 79.27% chance of making the playoffs right now, pre-Auburn game. Yet Fivethirtyeight is giving Bama just a 67% chance to make the playoffs right now regardless of the Auburn game, so clearly there's a discrepancy and I think this explains why posters are right in thinking we should root for Bama.

I have no idea what that will do to the playoff picture besides utter chaos but i'm fairly certain Auburn is going to win this game and advance to the SEC Champ game against Georgia which will leave a 1 loss Alabama sitting idle at home.

Wish you could guarantee an Auburn victory. I hate alabaga just as much as I do the lizards.

Who are we losing to? Pitt?

A loss to Clemsum in the acc 'ship, and unless it's like a one point loss, do you really think the committee will put Miami in the playoffs?

If Auburn wins, I hope it's by 60+. Otherwise a one loss Bama would get in easily over a one loss Miami team. Auburn winning is bad for us. A two loss Auburn team jumps a one loss Miami team. A one loss Bama team jumps a one loss Miami team. So, we need one of them eliminated, just in case. Oh, and a one loss Georgia team that beats a two loss Auburn team or undefeated Alabama.... You get the picture. Our best bet is Alabama winning out, and Michigan doing us a favor at some point.

I think its fair to worry about the scenario of Bama losing to Auburn. Because we all know that then there is only two seats to the dance left. As one for Bama and one for the SEC champ. OK is more than likely taking one of those seats as Big12 champ. So if, big IF we were to lose the ACC championship we would definitely be home. Because the committee will no doubt put a two loss SEC champ or a two loss OSU (big ten champ) over us with one loss and no acc championship or a one loss Alabama. There is no scenario I see that does not include Alabama in the playoff. Unless they got beat by like 30 to Auburn. Maybe that would knock them out far enough.
Obviously we just need to take care of business and let the rest take care of itself. But this is a message board. Its what we do.....
