Former Heisman winner Mark Ingram is already handing out way-too-early Heisman love, and Miami fans will like where this is headed.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Triple Option, Ingram named Hurricanes sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney as his early pick to win the Heisman Trophy in 2026.

Toney is coming off one of the best freshman seasons in Miami history. He finished with 109 catches for 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games, leading all freshmen in receptions and receiving yards. The freshman standout earned ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year and FWAA Freshman All-American honors. He became the first Miami freshman to top 1,000 receiving yards and just the seventh Hurricane overall to do it.

Toney caught at least five passes in 13 games, including 146 yards at Virginia Tech and 135 yards against Louisville. He also showed off his versatility, adding 113 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

This will get people talking.

I don't see it unless he gets much better at returning punts. I think he has a down year in production as the wide receiver room is much improved.

Ingram is a year too early. Next year, Mensah will probably be our offensive leader. Too many weapons for Toney to dominate the stat books, the way a Heisman winner needs too.

However, his final year, we will probably be starting a freshman/sophomore QB, who will lean heavily on the “veteran” Toney, who will also be shattering quite a few records during his 3rd and final season!

****. I hate to rush this one. Let’s enjoy the ride folks! 🙌🏿

Shoulda finished 2nd this year tbh

Our offense would have been pathetic without him. Add his punt returning and his blocking I’d listen to the debate that no one was more valuable to an offense in the country
