Mark Fletcher SR HL

Im a speed guy as much as anybody (been pounding that we slow af as a team for a loong time and saying we needed SPEEEEEEEEEEEEED for too many years) but I dont get how you can watch this guys senior film and not come away impressed and excited as **** for the RB room as a whole. He had many long runs and didnt see too many guys closing in on him at all..

Plus yea we would love a rb room of a 4x100 team but its not needed. We already got Chris who is a certified and verified burner so having a HAMMER to pound it out makes sense and his speed looks good for a guy with his size and running style. Hope he is able to have good mindset and attack summer workouts and survive summer practice and contribute.

Everyone loves the CJ Johnson speed (and how can you not)…but Fletcher is my hot take for the steal of the class on the offensive side. Not many people are talking about him…I think he’s a tank.
With Johnson and Fletcher in my football mind we have the two best RB in the country .

These two can house on any play ANY period.

What gets me these two aren’t even close to there optimum potential is you talk to them separately and ask them they both would shrug there shoulders saying IDUNNO .

This is what I see and pickup from seeing both play against the best high school players in the country, there bar is up in the clouds that they just DUNNO know one knows.

Just let them play and enjoy the SHORT time we have them.

Hope he stays healthy. Citizen would've helped us a ton.
@DMoney

If and I mean if Citizen makes it back 100% how would you compare him to Fletcher? My wish is for Citizen to make it back 100% by next Spring and have a group of Parrish, Chaney, Citizen, Fletcher and Johnson plus whoever we get as an EE for 2024. That would look like a Miami RB room.

I'm a speed guy too - but people should keep in mind that speed is a sliding scale with weight. Think in terms of "speed score".

A 225 lb RB running a 4.60 is impressive, while a 200 lb RB running a 4.60 is butt.

A 225lb/4.60 RB isn't near as fast as a 180lb/4.40 RB on a straight line - but it's similar (maybe better) in terms of a RB's effectiveness/success.

I don’t know if many here have ever seen Alonzo Highsmith run but both being the same size they look identical.

AH was actually going to be a DE here till coaches got the hint give AH a couple TB snaps LOLOL BOOM he starts.

Hunt down some videos and see,

bruh just my .02 but occasionally your opinion should be withheld for the benefit of the team/player. Like your opinion is going to garner a **** ton more attention than anyone else saying "Fletcher has a chance to start"

Like does he have a chance? Sure, why not. But with Parrish, Don and Citizen (all health permitting) returning, he has an uphill battle then if he isnt starting but also not getting a lot of burn, fans will come down hard on him because people in the offseason or greentree hyped him up. Now fans are crushing a kids confidence and making him mad all over ish he had no true control over. Setting the bar unrealistically high.

Call it what it is. He is a very good back that came on strong his senior year and did his thing against some of the best defenders in the nation and he should rush for a ton of TDs for us over the next 3-4 years. Trying to put a "starter" label on him year 1 before he has set foot on greentree is unnecessary. Now I know a rebuttal is you said "he has a chance" but that is not what the masses are going to read and run with.
Parrish is an average back. Sorry to say it but it’s true. He’s not a bruiser or a home run hitter. Chaney can’t stay healthy and we know nothing about Citizen.

This is one of the weakest returning RB groups we’ve had in recent memory. There’s absolutely an opportunity for Fletcher to see the field.

missing the point my guy.

I agree Fletcher is good, very good. I agree he has an opportunity to see the field if Chaney cannot stay healthy, we use parrish correctly, and citizen is a nonfactor this year. If that was in OP I likely do not even comment.

However none of those "what ifs" were in OP. It was just that he has a chance to start with no caveats. So with a healthy Chaney, Citizen, and Parrish, do you still see him being a starter by the end of the year? And if he is great, I am ecstatic, he will have elevated the room something special.

I was only trying to protect the kid from the fans that will now have unrealistic expectations then assume if he isnt starting by the end of the year that he is overrated, lazy, slow, discipline issues, school issues, (insert whatever other excuse you want, shannons doghouse whatever)

I would be very surprised if Citizen returns if he has to lose touches to Parrish and Chaney in 2024. If he thinks he is an NFL back he will be looking for his chance to be the workhorse and get drafted in year three, not be part of a 5+ back rotation. Especially if Fletcher emerges while he is hurt.

What, like Lingard did?

No one knows if he can even play after the injury yet. Will he ever be like he was? No one can answer that at this point.

I wanna believe bc I was told that Thad Franklin was gonna be that dude but ate himself off the team
Chaney can’t stay healthy
Rooster can’t hold the ball and left
Citizen tears his knee
And we portaled in a situational back from ole miss and made him our rb1
Our run of rbs is bad

He plays like a smaller twitchy RB but he’s also a bruiser with great vision. Rare combo.

What I see creating these type arguments is people don't distinguish between "possibility" and "probability"

Saying Fletcher has a "chance" to start by seasons end....well is that a 5% chance or a 50% chance? Because those two are very different. Without saying how realistic that "chance" is leads people to a wide range of interpretations & expectations.

IMO - Fletcher does have a "chance" to start, but I'd say it's not likely (something like15-20%). I'd say it's likely (60% chance) he gets meaningful playing time this year, in the 50-100 carries range. But what number of carries someone considers as "meaningful" is also open to interpretation.
