Not sure if this has been brought up, but Marion didn't even look.
It's a bad decision by Beck....but Marion looked like he thought his route was a decoy. Even when he did turn his head, it was super slow.

He turns faster and maybe he breaks up the INT.

Yes. Bad throw. But WRs turn into DBs all the time. Becker did it against OJ in the redzone in the first half
There’s shoulda-woulda-coulda- on every play in football. It was a bad decision to throw that ball for multiple reasons. And then it was underthrown. Sucks that Carson has to live with his decision but he led us to one of my favorite seasons ever. The playoff run was amazing. On to 2026.

He didn't need to look. You don't throw that ball in cover 2 unless its all the way over the top. He saw the coverage correctly and ran his route to the end zone where the ball should have been thrown.
If he looks and makes a play on the ball....maybe it's not picked. That's why you need to look

Easy to say in hindsight but if you look, you slow down, and you don't beat the safety to the end zone if the ball is thrown where it needs to be.

He peeked and it was too late.

Don't overthrow a deep ball in 1 on 1 and don't underthrow a deep ball in cover 2. Beck guessed and thought he had 1 on 1 and Marion read it right.

We lost 3 games this year and Beck threw a pick on the final play all 3 times. Its what he does.

That pass was never on. You could push it wide outside and deep but it was against double coverage. Never worth the risk.

Worst of all we had all the time in the world to work the clock and field position. There's a very easy path for us to pick up 20 more yards and be at their 20 with 25 seconds to go.

Such a shame we didn't get to see it play out.

I thought that too but @TheOriginalCane shared a fantastic still shot showing the opening where the ball needed to go, and it was there because the safety wasn’t going to beat Marion to the corner.

Not an easy play, but could’ve been made with a good throw. But I agree, clock wasn’t a major factor at that point and we were moving the ball and the OL was giving Beck time

The problem was the throw.

If the throw was better, AT WORST it's an incompletion.

As it was, it was an easy pick.

Yes Marion is being a great teammate, accountable, self-aware and classy, all attributes of UM team culture.

It was a bad throw and decision, some people are just looking for a more comfortable scapegoat and provided it. No one even suggested he was at fault prior to his locker room statement.
