MARIO WAS ANOTHER LAZY HIRE

Miami went from a program of innovation (Schnelly, JJ, and Erickson all brought something "new" to Miami) to a program that lives in the past and tries desperately to recreate the past.

Then again, Sam Jankovich was the last real athletic director we have had.

Ever since him, we just have puppets controlled by people who have no business making decisions about athletics.

Dolphins got an owner willing to spend money. Dolphins got an owner who keeps choosing the wrong people to run his football organization. When your decision-maker is no good your whole operation will likely be no good unless they make a lucky guess.

If you mean "bad" hire..... that's totally different than "lazy".

I disagree with both.

Only Miami hires a coach without an AD in place. Mario was hired by the BOT/his buddies, the result being no accountability.

On The Big Noon Kickoff show Urban Meyer was asked to rank the best coaching jobs available, he said, “You have LSU, you have Florida. I would say Florida (is the best), just because of the dysfunction right now (at LSU). They don’t have an athletic director … Everybody loves (the governor) down there, but they better get an AD in place pretty quick before … Really good head coaches will walk away from this and say ‘I’m not sure I want to do that.’

Miami will never get a "great" head coach without a strong AD in place.

Wasn’t Butch Davis only hired because he was Miami’s former DC and recruiting prowess?

No one wanted to come to UM when under all those sanctions - we were lucky to avoid what happened to SMU. Players OR Coaches.

There's a few NCAA rules due entirely to Butch Davis - he worked hard to get the program back on track.

We should have hired him the day he left UNC.

Yeah the crazy part is I believe Mario interviewed us basically

The Manny situation (his hiring) here really hammered home just how absurd everything was so yeah I didn’t like the Mario hire but no doubt it could have been a lot worse as well
Richt gave us a get out of jail free card and we did nothing with it. Can’t remember who was a realistic candidate at the time but not doing a real search was awful.

Rhett didn't win this game man. Scored 20 points and bailed by the Zebras. Is it cool he beat Miami to those fans sure but he didn't coach in anyway that shows he embarrassed Miami. Miami embarrassed Miami. He just lost to Wake last week and only scored 12 points. Do you think he has more talent than Wake Forest? I would say so.
Agree with what your saying-My point he still won with a roster that’s not nearly what we have-SMU beat us because our boneheaded mistakes-

Lashlee in his first year went to the ACC ship-We still haven’t won an ACC ship after all these years.

Mario isn't a bad hire if you let him rebuild the program and talent. He becomes a bad hire when you don't fire him for not meeting expectations with the advantages given including talent, financial support, and buy in from the university.

**sigh** I know there isn't a whole lot to talk about except our brain dead losses...but lets just stop talking about this. Rather it was lazy, bad, indifferent, I just want us to be a really good, relevant football team. Rather we have to do it coaching or via all 4/5 star players that out athletes everybody... that's all we want. Which is the easiest path to that? What influence do we have to obtain either. Who has that influence. Have we obtained either?

This is how you identify and solve problems. Not sure there isn't many on this board who can identify the problem(s) that are preventing the above, although there is that segment of the board who would argue we are good, just with stupid losses....and that we are relevant. And they are ok with that. I liken that segment to people who say if they have their health and family, they dont need anything else in life. (Which is also a lie)

At the end of a day, we are talking about a football team of young men who take instructions from grown men to play a game. Through that lens...everything is just peachy.

Fours on the Mercedes, that's major
Whole gang going crazy, that's major
Millions on the table, that's major
RIP….yD

Why do we think Manny was getting fired if Mario wasn’t getting hired? Don’t believe one happens without the other IMO. I’ll withhold judgement on Manny once all of Elko’s recruits have cycled out.
