20 posts in an no let it rip comments. Board needs to lock in. It’s playoff time.
But, you see, the OP claimed that it happened after the SMU game. The season changed with 2:22 left in the 2nd quarter of the Syracuse game, with the throwback to Beck. They would not have passed the eye test, much less won out, if they'd continued the A-gap offense.
That is as much an admission of guilt as you are going to get with an alpha type guy like Mario. I think it was significant.Meh. Nowhere in that interview does he say anything about purposely holding the offense back. He mentions “cutting loose” but is very vague about the whole thing.
Look, I want Mario to give up being a scared conservative coach and I thought last year’s results had turned that page but this year he went right back into a shell in week one. I think that’s always who he is.
Absolutely . Anyone with a brain could see early in the year he was purposely sitting on leads and trying not to lose rather than win the game . That’s why I was ****ed after ND and FSU. Neither game had any business being that close. He loosened things up after the SMU debacle and things got more creative and less obvious . Which is why I gave him props with how we ended the season . Regardless it’s time to move on.Thank you for posting. He said he had to “relearn how to cut it loose” during game time. So he didn’t actually say he handcuffed the offense but I think it’s implied - at least to me - that he was the one who was tightening up in the games. He’s saying the right things now so let’s see.
I edited the title because I think it’s misleading to a point as it is.

The week leading up to the playoff selection, I think we saw a different side of Mario. Relaxed. Enjoying the process. Funny. He seems to have let loose of the stranglehold of trying to control every aspect of the team and let it rip. Maybe this was his light bulb moment and came to the realization that he can’t control everything and needs to let his staff and players just go have some fun.Absolutely . This. We accomplished the goal, now it's all about having fun.We made the playoffs so all is forgiven, let's beat A&M's ***
I’m assuming this what beastmode was getting at but maybe he posts something else
Again, more people making stuff up.He loosened things up after the SMU debacle and things got more creative and less obvious .
Saw that as well, I think it was on Podcast w Herbstreit and that homo gallowaySo it was Mario and not Dawson.
Glad the noise got so loud he had to listen. Offense has looked great since that SMU game.
I think this season may change Mario forever. I posted in other threads the light may have finally come on to play to win and blow people out. Going into a shell almost cost them more games this year.
You can dominate people and still be creative on offense.
Mario looks so much more relaxed and having fun with it all.
[Maude Edit: Title changed from “Mario admits he handcuffed offense” to “Mario says he had to relearn how to let loose during game time” to accurately reflect what he said during the interview, a link to which OP didn’t provide]
You have to understand: the guys on this forum are more interested in saying that they were right than actually *being* right. With all this talk about Mario being too conservative or cutting it loose, I wonder what game someone watched where this weekend where the play calling was significantly different or tempo much faster than what we have done all season.
