Mario on Joe Rose Show Thursday 3/23

-“Today will be a physical day. We have to find out who does what.”

“They (Dawson & Guidry) have thrown everything at our players, and in a positive way,” “The culture is starting to come together. This group really likes to work, likes to get after it. They understand what putting in extra work is, understand the level of effort, understand it’s better than what we’ve had.”

Says he's seen pretty "significant improvement" in finding playmakers on offense.

“The addition of Kevin Beard as WR coach, that’s a lot, and a lot of positives. Jacolby George has taken a massive step, gained 12 pounds and he looks like it. He’s moving like that receiver you want. Brashard (Smith) has been really good, a little bit inconsistent. Expect big things from him. Isaiah Horton has taken another significant step, is an outside guy, we haven’t had much outside production other than Colbie (Young). Colbie is a stud, up to 218, 220 pounds. Robby Washington and Ray Ray Joseph, two dudes that get it. These guys just go and go. They are going to be really significant enhancements for our offense.”

“The offensive line has taken a huge upgrade in talent, physicality, everything that comes with it,”

Cristobal praised center Matt Lee along with Anez Cooper, Jalen Rivers and Javion Cohen.

RB Henry Parrish is standing out for his “tremendous improvement, work ethic”

The QBs “have taken a big step up.” Says TVD's "taken a big step as a leader. The system fits his skillset. It fits on what we have offensively right now.”

“The D line position is banged up in the spring (with Akheem Mesidor limited, Jahfari Harvey, Jared Harrison-Hunte and others out),” “A lot of young guys getting reps, and yes we will be very active come May (to add more in the transfer portal).”

Cristobal said the linebacker play has improved, including that Keontra Smith “has improved drastically.”

very i mean very very very very very very very different tone and messaging from last year when he said to temper all expectations.

Lots going on in every position group. I really want to see what the OL looks like. Mario didn’t mention the DB’s but so much going on, tough to get it all in (pause) in a short amount of interview time.

Happy to hear Mario mention the OL in the way he did. If our OL can be top of the ACC caliber, we play no DL other than Clemson and MAYBE A&M that should be able to give us problems. That will be huge for turning this offense around. Glad he mentioned being active for DL as well because outside of the top of the depth chart guys, I am very nervous about the DL as it currently stands. One or two injuries away from disaster at that spot.

I’m not saying that..I’m saying these comments aren’t going to hype me up anymore
I’m with ya man just joking around of course

It’s always exciting to talk about football and our team now because maybe it’s the only “excitement” we get all year

But grain of salt always

Someone come over and knock the Kool Aid out of my hands. Couple more positive quotes and tidbits and I’m going to be on the 15-0 train. I got a bad case of battered wife syndrome lol.

I hear what you are saying and mostly agree with you but I'm glad that Mario at least recognizes the things that went wrong and at least is talking like he knows how to fix it. It's better than him just whistling past the graveyard with a deer in the headlights kind of look.

I'm at 8 wins right now. As each week progresses pre-season, my expectations go higher. So, come fall camp and there's good news buzzing and DMoney is lubing us all up, my prognostication goes from 8 wins to 10 wins to ACC Champs to CFB playoff contender to championship week by week. Of course, this all crumbles in the 1st quarter by game 1. That's when reality hits.

His discussion of the DL especially DT was interesting because within this portion of the interview and Mario's response, he said (paraphrasing) the position improve through addition by subtraction. He goes on to discuss that they found guys in the program who didn't belong and it was evident. Mario catches himself then adds they will be active come May.

It was an interesting interview to say the least. He mentioned Joesph being a guy who loves to work mentioned his staying after and late to work on the jug machine.
I caught that as well. Who was he referring to?

Kinda odd. The only people I think transferred out on the DL were Elijah Roberts, Haye, Jordan Miller. and D. Jax. I dont think any of those guys were ever an issue.
i know he said the "addition by subtraction" statement right after Joe asked him about the DT position, but Mario said "for our roster, the biggest thing in the offseason was addition by subtraction, let's call it what it is, meng [yes, he said], you have to get people that fit a certain type of DNA, we'll leave it at that. the second part as to the D Line position"..

again, i think it was comment about the roster in general because he then starts discussing the details of the D Line.
