Mario on Joe Rose: Hear a fake tough guy tell you to work hard

I would hope he knows the smart play was not to run it out b/c, u know, time conservation & all?
If you’re gonna take a knee from the 25, the smart play is trying to break a long return. If you are going to go for it, the smart play is touchback. We did the opposite of the smart thing on both options.

So why did he tell Joe we took a knee bc we didn’t break a big return? But we didn’t return it.

Like I’ve been saying he has no clue what’s going on, or he doesn’t want to come out and admit he wanted to play for OT and told Marion not to return it.

You don't think those same guys are investing because they want a championship at Miami?

Granted, their leashes/tolerance are probably longer than most of the fans.

But if we're 7 years in and Mario still hasn't won the ACC or a playoff berth and the Ad/president is ready for a change, obviously the rich boosters (Mas brothers and others) will have to be involved. You think they'll say to the school "nope you can't can't fire Mario or we won't invest anymore"?

At some point they'll also realize he's not the guy and if they want a championship at Miami, they'll need to make the same investment in somebody else and give them a chance.

Or do you think they don't care that much about bringing a championship back to Miami and really they just wanted to see Mario do it?

Where was the investment before Mario was hired?

I don't know anyone involved nor do I have any inside information....but if you think about this basic question it should give you an idea.

Other programs that have sucked for the past 20+ years still have a strong donor base.
Indiana had no support for their football program 3 years ago. They hired a coach who is winning and now the money is pouring in. Michigan St had one good year with Mel Tucker and all the sudden the support showed up. Clemson started winning with Dabo and they all of the sudden got money. Mizzou same way under Drink. Plenty more middle of the road schools as well. That’s how it works.

Using 20+ years of being bad lead to no support.

Well NIL didn't really exist before Mario and we didn't really have any leadership at the school that understood the value of a top 10 football program.

So you can't really compare. And those guys were still investors.. Just not the way they are now.

you pay for all american kick returner to not return kicks at a spot where you could get free yards to get close to field goal range

Penalty ranked under Mario as HC @ P4 level:
2018 - 30th
2019 - 63rd
2020 - 60th
2021 - 112th
2022 - 109th
2023 - 71st
2024 - 95th
2025 - 128th

I’m not sure what Mario thinks is disciplined, but his track record shows this couldn’t be further from the truth. There’s one instance that went semi viral that gave Mario this undue credit, & it was several yrs back while at UO. Even though UO was up big, one of his players had an Unsportsmanlike penalty, & Mario can be seen meeting him on the field w the cameras on him yelling “U can’t do that.”

Thus, the legend of “Mario, The Disciplinarian” was born.
Either corches suck or Miami is being targeted.

No other explanation.

Ok. We shall see. I think there is a strong history to suggest that this newly found level of financial support is the exception and not the rule for this fan base. I hope it plays out the way it has in those other places but given that we didn't really see any increase of donors during our last period of winning I'm doubtful. Hope I'm wrong.

You say those people that are donating big right now are holding to program hostage...I somewhat disagree.
We are not obligated to accept their money and we are also not entitled to it.

I don’t even know why we’re arguing about money. Look at the ACC standings. Miami is the only school that needs $20 million to win. Carson Beck probably costs more than UVA and Wake’s entire roster. The top 6 teams combined probably cost less than ours.

We can definitely agree we are incredibly wastefull and we should be able to win this sh111t conference without the money levels we are at now.
I have enjoyed the conversation.

like it was a win win spot to return that. if he gets yards you have a shot with a timeout. if hes brought down quickly - take the knee.

just coaching scared. i hate this man

Fair points. I think your last sentence is probably what will end up happening when the (what seems now) inevitable happens.
A couple of years down the road I image. Sooner if the wheels completely come off.

You all keep crying about the money drying up and boosters withdrawing. Does losing in October and November make you all feel better than losing in September. We literally are in the same space of ineptitude. Losing differently isn't a better version of losing. If the money goes does it mean we wont win this dumpster conference? Little secret the money is overrated when you don't have coaching.
